Treasure Island/Saint Pete Beach

I guess Mr and Mrs. Cyberdad, leaving Sunset Beach/Treasure Island is a loss to Treasure Island and to this list!

Thanks so much for the insight from someone out of the area on your opinions and observations of the Suncoast.

Look forward to your dx observations from the Florida/Alabama border and in the past I've not paid as much attention as I should have as to your reception in the area of any stations from Baton Rouge!

Hope your trip to the Great White North was uneventful!

Also thanks GarFla for all the suggestions you've made as to just what catches are available and where. (sounds as though Honeymoon Island is the best overall bet).

btw- one more question, the bit of FM dx'ing you were able to do (94.5 and 96.9) was that done on the GE Superradio III? or some other radio? I was wondering since you mentioned the poor reception on 94.5, which surprised me.

I do know that the GE Superradio III is great with sound, selectivity and sensativity on the AM band, but on the FM band it is just average or maybe even a little below average.
 
I was using the Eton E-10, which normally does a respectable job on FM. I didn't spend much time on FM during my stay for a couple of reasons. First, there was quite of bit of noise in the building....which was a little surprising given that AM was pretty much noise free. The noise varied a little at various points on the dial, but IIRC it was quite pronounced at 94.5, which may have affected things.

Secondly, most of the locals were very strong and bleeding somewhat onto adjacent and nearby channels. This is a bigger issue for the SRF-37 walkman, so I didn't use that at all on FM. The DX-375 is missing its whip antenna and connection, so it only picks up locals on FM.

I didn't bring the Supe. It's a Superadio II. I may decide to bring it with me to Perdido Key....assuming I can first tough it out for 12 days of "non Florida"! ;D

Whether I bring it or not, I'll probably spend more time on FM there because I'll be in an 8th floor location with only one super-strong local signal.
