Trends:Record High for Preciosa,Falling Star

Winners:101.9 LA PRECIOSA:Record high, a great trend for Spanish language radio in general as 103.5 LA NUEVA jumped to #3 (tie) with the highest gain of any station.

KQOL: Highest level in a long time

KOAS: Record high for the Oasis

Clear Channel: 3 of their 4 stations are in the top 5, all 4 are in the top 10.

Losers:KXPT and KSTJ, both the POINT and STAR are now in the 1s, Both continue to be impacted badly by JACK. STAR especially took a big hit. Is this rock bottom for these two stations? I can't imagine them going down much further.

I applauded Beasley's bold entry into the country music battle...while at the same time, like most of us, wondered what they were thinking holding onto Star's 80's format. (A format that virtually doesn't exist anywhere else in the country.) Over the years there have been several opportunities to take Star AC or Hot AC, but Beasley did nothing. Now, they have reached a point of no return...a 1.6 for the trend???? THEY'RE TIED WITH KDWN PEOPLE!!!

Tweaking the music ain't gonna do it...Saying you're an iPod on shuffle ain't gonna do it. Could STAR be the 5th format change this year? Where do they go now? Does the POINT eye a change or just an adjustment?

Vet, I think you lost count on the format changes in '05: (1) LITE to JACK (2) SPANISH 104.7 to WILLIE (3) 1280 SPANISH to 1280 TALK (4) KJUL to COYOTE (5) WILLIE to KJUL (6) 107.9 R&B to AREA 108. + if you want to get technical ..... (7) XTREME to XTREME ROCK RADIO + Losing HOWARD.

Truly a record setting year, and I do agree, we might see another change or tweek between now and January 2.

I stand corrected. Thank you.

Perhaps a slight adjustment for the Point is in order. Get rid of the stuff from the 60s and 70s and focus on the 80's and early 90's rock with an emphasis
on hairbands. Sort of like the Brew in Milwaukee. Just my opinion, I could be
wrong.

The problem with that idea is they would be "moving towards the market". What I mean is they would be moving to where the saturation is. A lot of stations in LV play plenty of 80s/early 90s rock such as STAR, JACK, KKLZ, and KXPTs own sister station (who they wouldn't want to harm) KOMP.

I would make adjstments in the other direction. Get rid of what little 80s they are playing and feature a large library of 70s/late 60s softer rock ala WDRV (the DRIVE)/Chicago. Check out their music on mediabase or yes.com. Although the fact that KQOL has moved more 70s makes the DRIVE format less attractive than it would have been a year or two ago.

Here's an idea that's sure to anger some people. Let's say hypotheticaly the POINT sinks even further and can't recover (which I don't wish on them). How about a switch to Spanish? I'm not sure if there are enough ad dollars out there to support yet another Spanish language station, but ratings wise (and population trends wise), the market could support another one, perhaps Spanish AC? Lotus has much experience with Spanish language radio in markets such as Los Angeles, Fresno, and Tucson. Plus the last I heard they will be signing on a Spanish sports AM here in Las Vegas soon.

Add KQMR to KRGT, Amor to Kalle.
