WAEZ's music mix is really off. Did Toya really need
to be played ever again? There is a MASSIVE Top 40 hole to be
filled in this market. WAEZ used to fill it and got double
digits with it.

Dude ya killin' me. I'm dying ova here. That is funny as, well you know where I'm headed.
______________

I noticed

WXIS and, for that matter, WEMB over in Erwin were up.

Now, once upon a time I worked over there. They were just awful- had no vision whatsoever- and quite frankly I think rap music isn't exactly what is going to go over well in Erwin.

But they had a big boost.

Could it be that they fill the urban contemporary void the other stations aren't mixing into their playlists?

The next thing I see- and to me this is the interesting one- is the talk radio wars.

There is a school of thought that when teams are losing you should do better because fans want to sound off on them.

Well, you have UT football and basketball in bad shape, along with ETSU sports, and yet WJCW, which has a defacto sports format, can't pull ahead of WFHG- which really doesn't broadcast any more sports than they have to and I believe leave something to be desired with their local hosts.

Could WJCW have pulled ahead of WFHG in a non-political year if Bill and Don were willing to sound off a bit more and be more critical of the Vols and Bucs?

I mean, how many more positive spins can you put on Phil Fulmer always getting beat by Steve Spurrier and the Bucs going into the toilet?

I disagree that UT basketball is in bad shape. The women are ranked #1 and there is an entirely different vibe surrounding the men's team. They will probably finish a game or two over .500 and steal a game in the SEC Tournament. The coach already has commitments from some outstanding high school seniors for next season. Attendance is even up at men's games.
Don't get me wrong, they're a long way from being even a bubble NCAA Tournament team but to say they're in bad shape is incorrect.

I can't believe I even wrote all that, cause I'm not even a fan. ACC Basketball all the way baby.
______________

Yeah, why do you think that is? Programming hasn't really changed has it? I really haven't noticed any major shake ups in music anyway. At least that's the way it sounds to the untrained ear? Any big promotions that would've done this? I mean, we're talking about fall time, when most of the big stuff is already over by the end of summer. There's a new jock here or there, but that's about it. If anyone understands the way this kind of thing works, I'd love to hear it.

Re: I noticed

Say what you will about the Lady Vols, but you and I both know that nobody cares.

Oh, wait. Someone tell me about the attendance and such, that it's a growing sport, da da da, but come on.

Honestly, when was the last time you listened to a sports talk show and heard someone call up about chick hoops?

And automatically defending the basketball program with the women's team, as well as stating how good one or two games over .500 is (who are you- Matt Doherty?), speaks volumes that the Vols are a long way away from the Duke Blue Devils.

But I'm not here to talk about hoops. I'm here to ask-

Why did WXIS get a bump-

What does WFHG and/or WJCW have to do to get ahead of one or the other in the talk wars?

Howdy, Buck-a-roo! I tip the hat to 'QUT and 'TFM for their numbers. Of course, 'XBQ has consistently gone down since I was unceremoniously booted. I know I wasn't the main reason for their 24.8 and being named the number one country station in the U.S.A., but it is kinda interesting. As far as Electric, I heard some stuff on there the other night (Tears for Fears and the like) that should've never been on there. Just exactly what audience are they fighting for anyway?

XBQ Will always be number 1. Unless someone has the b___S to come in and take them on with a REAL country station. Or, if someone will take a Classic Country to the FM band.

WAEZ is sentenced to death. I've not heard any level of consistency since the stations inception. Of course they had good numbers once, but that was a different frequency that actually hit the metro well. Then some Einstein decided a 100,000 watt southern facing tower 90 minutes away would make a positive impact on it's numbers.

Now you have in, out, back in, out, and back in again Gary Blake to head the programming department under 50 and 60 year old men who "think" they know what their respective female demo would like to hear.

How many morning shows have they had? How many mid-day jocks are they going to go through? Who ever owns that station should turn it off, and save on the "electric" bill.

What is going on over at BB? Someone fill me in on the specifics.
I miss that area and I'd hate to think Exlaxic would finally be flushed
without a true fight.
The Spindoctor

94.9 is hodge-podge of several formats. A little top 40, a little
AC, a little Hot AC, a little classic rock, a very little urban. If you
look at their website today, you'll notice both adds are contemporary
christian hits. To me, it's a very confusing blend of music.

Confusing is the word I was looking for. The station could be so much more, and the management refuses to let it be what it can. I wish someone who was working there could shed some light on this crazy situation.
