Any thoughts on the latest trends?

Lite is up over a point and leads the market again. I guess some of those all Christmas listeners stuck around once the holidays were over...

Both ZMX and Power are down over a half a point. Kiss is up again, tied with Hot for fifth place. Is hip-hop on a down cycle right now? I suppose Kiss doesn't have to worry about flipping to Spanish anytime soon...

WCCC takes a hit after losing Howard. Not a big surprise and I suppose it could have been worse. They could go down even more in the next trend, which is a distinct possibility. The River is up a tick and WAQY is getting numbers in the market again. I guess that's where CCC's listeners went...

WDRC-FM is up over a half point, but they've tweaked their music yet again, returning to more 60's and 70's oldies. Why can't this station get it's act together, pick a direction, and stick with it?

It has been amusing at times, especially earlier this week, listening to the DRC-FM DJ's stumbling over their words while trying to remember the station's branding du jour. I heard one DJ say "Big Hits...er...Good Time Rock and Roll." Another DJ slipped and said "Good Time Oldies".

I do agree, DRC-FM's branding and playlist du jour is getting frustrating and extremely obvious even to the average casual listener.

I would have kept the old slogans, but made the music tweaks. While I liked the semi-Jack that was going on before, I think the overall health of the station is better if they keep the path they're on now and leave it alone.

Well they are right behind 96.5 TIC which I think is good for DRC-FM. Below them is The Rock and Power.

On another subject now. Power tied with WAQY in Springfield, MA with no affect on Hot 93.7 ratings at all. Just KISS 95.7 took some listeners away from Hot 93.7 to tie them. Plus I also think if Power wasn't here Hot 93.7 would be right behind WTIC 1080 or Country 92.5. Maybe Power needs to go the Urban AC way or go Spanish.

12-plus rankings mean little to nothing. You only need to own a portion of a key age segment to be very attractive to advertisers. WRCH had a huge 12+ audience in the 80s with beautiful music, but their change to Lite AC couldn't happen a moment too soon. TIC-FM hasn't been anywhere near the 12+ top in ages, but their demos are probably at least more where they need to be than some others.

Ratings do not replace research. They're a snapshot of what happened... a sales tool. Reacting to every ratings trend is truly putting the cart before the horse. Plan for the next book.
