With the caveats that yes, these are Trends, and yes, these are 12 + numbers, here are some unsolicited opinions on the May numbers....KFYI is doing muy bueno. They have been hitting immigration hard and that's a hot-button issue. I don't have daypart breakouts, but... Liddy and Who?KOOL is trending slightly upward, which is nice, as is - surprisingly - KEZ, which gained more than half a point. That's unusual for the 99.9 crowd this time of year. The Peak is humming along nicely. It's been a year or more, and the decision to drop K-Lite is reaping benefits.KMLE and KNIX are tied. If one went away, the one left over might jump to number one. But I doubt either one goes away.Goodbye KKFR and your Top 10 ratings. There seems to be a certain 100K FM stick that's tanking. I think it would make a nice home for Power (or whatever). But enough about Free FM, which gets twice the ratings of ESPN Radio....whoopeeKSLX is pretty strong. Hard to believe they've been around 20 years. The listeners are maturing into that format. KUPD is right there with them. KDKB, on the other hand.... Kiss FM is stable. I would think they stand to reap a few listeners from the demise of Power 92, if for no other reason than those listeners have nowhere else to go (on a radio, anyway.)Mix 96.9 is gasping for breath. Ain't workin' fellas... Here's a surprise. The Coyote is dropping. Granted, they've got decent numbers, and with voice tracking, this station is a license to print money but here's my evil genius plan...Take Dr. Akbar's advice (gasp!) and simulcast KFYI on FM. Kill Mix 96.9 and put the Coyote on that frequency. I KNOW it's hard to move frequencies, but XTRA, KFYI and KOY have moved in recent years with success. (Remember when XTRA was on 1360, and then 550?) Lots of listeners probably don't recall or never knew KFYI was on 910 for about 15 years. So it can be done. Why move the Coyote to 96.9? Mix has never taken off (though it may bill well, I dunno.) So why not put KFYI at 96.9? You could, but, radio needs positioners and you could position the new KFYI as "Ninety-Five Point Five-Fifty KFYI." That sounds better than "550 and 96.9 KFYI" or some other configuration.Ask anyone who's not in radio which station they listen to. Most of the time they will say the frequency, not the calls. 95.5 is a lot closer to 550 than anything else and Clear Channel has 'em both.
