This rating trend should be a lesson to you managers.

Tradionally KLUV is a mid to upper 3 share station but with KVIL'S music direction changing every 6 mos and not playing a lot of familiar songs for 35-45 year olds, KSCS'S lame sound, WBAP's tired old right wing crap and low modulation on the dial, and Wolf's constant changes there really isn't much place for adults to go anymore. Thus KLUV an Oldies station grows and grows and grows.

Look around in other markets, properly programmed AC stations always beat Oldies stations. Luckily for KLUV that's not the case here. What a waste KVIL, KSCS and The Wolf is right now...they've never sounded worse! :'(

Please someone save the BONE!!!!!!!!

Looks like KLUV has benefited from WBAP's losses. They've swapped places from their traditional 12+ slots.

But watch out for that fist fight between the Bone and KLIF for 26th place! It's heatin' up bay-beee!

Of course, in 25-54 it looks differently, with KKDA, KLTY, KHKS, KTCK, KVIL, KESS, KEGL, KLUV, KLNO, KSCS, KBFB, KPLX, KLLI and KRNB being the winners. WBAP is at 23rd, which is at the low end of its range, but close to where they were same time last year. KLUV is well within its range in the last 6 months, while KVIL is a couple of positions higher than same time last year.

It's a pretty surprising trend!

One thing I noticed the other day was that KLUV is starting to add a lot of 80s music. I think this is long overdue and it's obviously working for them.

I'm most surprised at WBAPs tumble. The talk format they've run for 13+ years now has endured a lot of changes, but always been in the top 10. I don't think they've had a 12+ trend under a 3 since they became a talk station.

Traditionally KSCS, WBAP, KLTY, The Wolf all beat KLUV 25-54. Not the case the last few months which i attribute to bad programming on the afore mentioned stations.

I say it's time to buy out one of those poor performers, and show Dallas Radio how to actually operate and program a station. Plex and Laffer get AM drive, Mike Shannon gets middays or PM drive (his choice). The rest of the jocks will be announced.

So let's pool our money here guys, and make this happen! I'll start with a $0.01 found on the floor by the KEOM janitor. She said it was heads up when she found it. ;)

I'd be happy just to get the old "Hi-Fi Club" back off the ground!

I'm not a morning person (that's why I work the 6AM-noon shift :p) so put me down for PM drive. My program clock will read, oldie...traffic...oldie...traffic...oldie...traffic...oldie...traffic...

I'm sure all the "Bubbas" and "friends" of Hal Jay will disagree but One reason I think WBAP is down is because of the loss of Dan Potter. Hal Jay to me sounds tired. He's sounded tired for a very long time. I know many think he's funny. I guess i just don't appreciate that "Yahoo" good 'ol boy old fashioned corn humor. Yes I know it's ONLY a trend but nevertheless they got hit and my suspicions are they won't bounce back up to quickly. Until they address these problems I do not see WBAP regaining it's almost 3 to 1 margin over KLIF and KRLD.

The intro beds are stale, very stale. The top of the hour needs to be re-done. How long can you go sounding stale with the air presentation??

Some of the traffic announcers are horrible. The all night trucking network is just one long long commercial. They better fix all this or WBAP is going to end up like The Wolf hanging in the 2's and low 3's Barring another 911 or until the election

One thing to remember about WBAP being down in this trend. They picked up february and dropped november- can anybody (besides me) think of anything in November that could have been helping WBAP's ratings?

I NEVER listen to WBAP mornings so I don't know if they sound stale or not, but one thing to look at, especially when talking about talk and sports stations, is the enviorment that could be contributing to ratings wobbles...

Like I predict that ratings at nights on WBAP and ESPN will pick up in april, may and June. Again, Am I the only one that sees WHY?

Yeah I catch your drift Little 1 that ratings will pick up in summer months but still WBAP has never had a 2.9 I think that may be a first.

Given the Mavericks have had one of the best basketball seasons ever, I'm surprised ESPN 103.3's trends aren't a little better. I know when the Astros do well, it helps KTRH's numbers here in Houston, as well as the Spurs season helps WOAI. Those shares are not that good for the flagship station of the best team in basketball, so far, this year.

ABOUT WBAP -- Laff is right. I usually have the mighty 820 on in the mornings and Hal sounds like he is out of gas. Most of the staff does for that matter. It is antiquated radio and sadly, their bumpers, jingles, promotions, marketing...et cetera... needs to change or that swinging light bulb in the dank cellar of radio is going to be the only light they see for a while.

ABOUT ESPN -- Unfortunately and historically, basketball rarely bodes well for listeners... it's more viewers. HOWEVER, Baseball is another story. 35 percent of fans crawl those bleachers, park their butts in a seat and turn on the greatness of Eric Nadel.

I'm sure there is a push, but has anyone done the homework to see how significant that push is during the season?

Just interested.

Allright, you're giving me a complex now (not a KPLXcomplex, however.) So who are these horrible traffic announcers? Hmmm? Hmmm?

I don't think of Hal's show as a "bubba" thing...I never pictured myself listening to WBAP, but I really enjoy Hal and the bits and the chatter, and believe me, I'm not a "bubba" in real life. Ya know, Hal's been through a LOT in the last 6 months: heart attack, catheters, stents, a defibrillator, etc, but to me, he sounds as good as ever. I know this could be construed as an obligatory love-fest coming from me, but it's really and truly how I feel. Hal doesn't lean on shock value and thinly-veiled innuendo to be funny, and I can't explain how tired I am of the ones that do. (And that's not me being a prude; I guess I'm at the age where content and substance mean more to me than cheap laughs.) I can name you several other morning hosts that have been doing time 1/10th as long as Hal, and sound like they're headed to the grave (or should be dumped into one out of mercy.)

Far as ratings, ABC has invested heavily in far right-wing talk shows for the last several years, and the obvious shift of the country to a more moderate view is going to cause some damage to those shows that don't or won't flex with the times. I'm sure that, once the election season heats up, all will be back to normal.

MIKE,

As for the tradffic announcers, I won't name names because I hear good ones AND bad ones. But recently in the last few years it seems more and more bad ones getting on air. Unprofessional delivery, stumbling, boring.

I listen to KLIF a lot and i DO think Bill Jackson is Superb. I like Lee Jackson on KRLD. Monty Cook is Good. There are a few others but overall :'(

WBAP's ratings trend decline i think goes deeper than just the hosts. Grant you not much is going on politically right now and yes 'Bap will go up during election time but if Tyler Cox thinks he can come back and sit on WBAP laurels he better think twice. There's a reason he got a 2.9. Sure it'll go back up but I think WBAP has been vulnerable for the past two-three years. It's time for some cosmetic changes.

There many good traffic anchors reporters out there, Mike of course,Plus Monty and Laura.Julie is good on KRLD,but at times I feel she puts on too much drama,Max is laid back, concise and to the point, John On KRLD sounds like he is audtioning for a part in a community theatre group hoping against hope he gets the part.. Kym on KLUV is a perfect match with John Summers positive, caring, conversational. Amy Bishop and Bret Pevito are also great at what they do.All the others sound like they are just reading copy and going through the motions or over acting to fit the format.

Hal Jay;A pleasure and honor to work with. What you see and hear is no different than the man himself. He has legions of fans, and deservingly so

Mark is a good guy and I like him personally, though is political rants are mostly for show. Sinvce he has gone network, they have become a bit over the top. Rush has peaked and Sean is getting ready to actually surpass him. I don't care for either of them myself -"BUY MY LATEST BOOK"."I wrote that in my latest book"

Congrats to my good freind Omar Romero OM for La preciosa 97.1 they kicked ''Recuerdos Ass'' congrats guys! David Eduardo care to give us a little explanation as to what is going on in Dallas?

One trend... in fact, only one month of a trend... where KEGL was a couple of tenths above KLNO. Hardly an "ass kicking." Since Preciosa comes 100% out of Salinas, CA, the local OM only schedules the van hits, not the music or the jox or anything else.

And did you know that the Precisoa PD in February was fired from his position at the end of that month, and they have a new PD who has added over 800 songs to the library...

My My, KPLEX... I'm impressed that you know the correct spelling of Kym West's name... Even most of the people at Metro probably spell her name with an 'i.'
