Well, if it's between Fresh and WLTW, in January, I would have taken WLTW in a heartbeat. Now, I'll take Fresh. WLTW has been all over the place with the "New York's 106.7" branding change and music shift. I heard "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen on 106.7 on Saturday in the 3PM hour. I checked my dial to make sure I had it on 106.7. I quickly changed to Fresh. Sorry -- if I want soft music, "Bohemian Rhapsody" doesn't cut it. I never thought I'd say it but "Fresh" is often times "Liter than [the former] Lite-fm." WLTW seems to be playing up its "variety" more than its softness or liteness. Their HD-2 Classic Lite is an amazing station. They should add more of that music and let Fresh have its fun with newer soft music. Let WLTW play the LITE songs from the 60's to now. No Gwen Stefani or Amy Winehouse. Moreover, WLTW has been tinkering with its audio and HD radio signal, often causing the sound of the station to be muddy - during workday hours! Why not save these tests for the early mornings, weekends, or later at night?
With regards to Fresh 102.7, it's certainly not perfect. The playlist is WAY too limited for my tastes - there needs to be more music variety on the station. Adding a few songs here and there doesn't do much. The "personalities" rarely talk, and can often get on one's nerves because of the sicky-sweet delivery. Also, is it that hard to air the top of the hour jingle AT the top of the hour?? Often times, it will be :00, and they will start up another song without the TOH. Then, at :03 or :04, it will air. What's the point of a TOH then?
WLTW used to be preset number 1 since late '05 on my radios. Now, WMGQ has taken over #1 with Fresh in at #2 and the old Lite in a far #3 which rarely gets pushed anymore.
Well, enough about this. It seems like CBS Radio has finally found some success with Fresh, and we'll have to see about WXRK, but Jack is in need of some work.

They're trying to keep it young...where the money is.

Which really stinks. WLTW reacted too quickly (in my opinion) to Fresh by adding too much upbeat music and newer music. A station can still be contemporary without over-playing Prince, Queen, and lots of Madonna. They were doing SO well. Why react until they notice that Fresh could really mean competition? The music tweaking started at the beginning of the year just when Fresh signed on.
Everyone is going after the same audience. It's really sad that many stations stress "variety" while the NYC radio dial is truly lacking variety.
