First let me say I'm a big fan. I danced around the house and called my friends when I heard the regular guys were coming back. I relish the fact that 100.5 pokes project in the eye almost daily. Long live 96rock.

But...

I have to say the regular guys have devolved into one long strung together series of sound bites coupled with constant arguing between Larry and Eric that is often venomous.

My alarm went off at 6am this morning. It was 9 minutes of one recorded sound bite after another that we have all heard a thousand times before the first live word was spoken. Couple that with the news jog that has turned into a constant argument and you have a recipe for listeners that are going elsewhere. Where is the entertainment? Where are the bits? Homeless karaoke? In my stall? something? Why can't they shut the hell up and let SSS and Tim say something. I have to say the larry munson bit is funny but you really had to hear the real Larry do the movie reviews to appreciate it. I found myself listening to bert for god sake.

I'm not sure what the answer is. Perhaps drop Eric? The show won't work without SSS and without Larry but someone needs to throw Larry's laptop of sound bite tedious listener torture out of the window.

Ditto on the sound bites, but the 8:00 hour has plenty of bits.
 
Totally agree with all of the above. I am also sick of sss's antics about how many women he has poked, plus they are so Republican. Plus they make fun of gay people and are generally mean to a lot of caller's. Definitely need to re-invent themselves. It is getting very tiring to listen too. I can't stand Imus either, but my dial goes to 106.7 at 9.
 
Agree with all of the above. I stopped listening to the News Jog a long time ago because most of it was devoted to "Democrats are stupid / Democrats are unpatriotic." Just the same thing over and over every day. And now it seems like most of the show is email bucket or calls from the general public. How much prep is required for that? Two minutes? Plus it injects even more one-sided political debate into the show--and if I wanted to hear that I could head on over to Boortz or Imus.

I would LOVE to hear more stuff from Tim Andrews or guests like Yucko the Clown or Slim Mackerel or even homeless karaoke. Even Larry Munson Jr. has been cut back to 2 days a week.

I really hope, once the election is over, they go back to more of the 1.0 stuff. Because right now, I'm just drifting away a little more each day.

By the way, does anybody like the Yiddish phrase of the week? I think that's one bit that needed to be retired after the first month.
 
Part of it might be the inevitable turnoff that more commercials cause as a show builds a base of listeners, as they have increased the # of spots. I don't think it's too many--someone's gotta pay the bills--but it's not "10 million songs-in-a-row, commercial free" anymore either.

The politics have a definite right-wing slant (which I personally like), but they also throw in some Boortzian libertarian curveballs (ditto). I seriously doubt that "fair and balanced" would work on their show, versus (as they describe it) "slanted and biased".

I've never heard them be genuinely mean to a caller, except for obvious set-up calls or Larry's "you...get...NOTHINGGGG!!!" gag, which IMO has gotten old and needs to be rested for a while. Most people--including the callers--are in on the joke.

I do agree that SSS needs to talk about things other than his conquests--he has a lot of other things he could talk about, being an ATL native (like myself :) ) and a good storyteller. He's getting a little one-dimensional with the bedpost notches.

I think if they picked up the pace a little bit and got a tad more topical it would help. They seem to be moving away from discussing/making fun of current events. Maybe it's just the election.

Well, since you brought it up.

Dropping Eric would certainly get rid of the arguing since he seems to be a serial arguer in the Boortzian tradition and tends to shout down those around him with whom he disagrees. Not that funny, Eric. Not always necessary. Learn to laugh with the very funny cast around you instead of puffing up your bogus intellect. It's a joke. Keep it that way. Even Larry is less caustic and more sly in his humor and he's kind of a prick from what I've heard around town.

The sound bites are a little much, but other than that, they have stellar content, well-developed characters, and a more mainstream sound not intended for the radio groupies primarily. Going back to 1.0 style would be a mistake. They are grown men and have been here for 10 years. To go back to the general juvenility of morning radio and their current imitators at 96.1 would not result in a better show.

They have also dealt, quite poignantly I might add, with the deaths of two people close to the show, Ben the Bunnyman, and more recently, Steve's dad.

The show seems to have more women and minorities listening as reflected by the callers I hear, but they have done a pretty good job of keeping the redder of their red state listeners.

I find it ironic that they tout their newscast as "GA's most biased and slanted," yet some people here don't seem to believe them. The news these days is all about the politics and the election, and while I don't really agree with their stances on everything, they accurately reflect the angst in their target audience over the direction of the country, so they are right where they need to be and I like that we have our own local version of some of the better cable news shows available to us. Would we prefer "Celebrity Sleaze Redux?"

A lot of 1.0 stuff is still around like Homeless Karaoke, In My Stall, and George Stein, and I like those, but not as much as the news and current events discussions. I've heard them say on many occassions that the guy who played Slim Mackerel doesn't want to do it anymore, and Tommy the Tard's mom won't let him call, but they seem to be always making new finds and experimenting.

Be it resolved. Too many sound bites and a little too much arguing, but these are live, local human beings who are a part of their local community doing 20+ hours of pretty good talk radio a week. That's hard to find these days.
 
Meh. At the end of the day I tune in for the wit, and that hasn't gone anywhere. They're still the best thing on morning radio, by far.
 
Three words would help the show: More Tim Andrews


And I'm being very serious.
 
Maybe they've just lost it. Like an old married couple that...y'know. Plus, from what I see you peoples wanting (the project morn show bashing) you want them to be mature...mature radio is boring
 
Larry is the genious of the show. His wit is unsurpassed by any other Atl radio host. There are many mornings when I have to Google something he said. He makes me laugh and think. Very smart. I agree with most sentiment that Eric needs to go. His bitterness is tiring and only drags down the show. I don't think he realizes that Larry goads him most of the time. Larry may or may not really believe most of what he says. I think it's just shock jockery and he knows that by playing the devil's advocate, he can get Eric riled up. Larry could replace Eric with Tim. Tim is incredibly creative. His impersonations are always entertaining. Although, I am not sure that Tim is intelligent enough to keep up with Larry's wit. As for Steve, he is purely redneck dressing in my opinion. Without his Southern boy attitude, TRG wouldn't garner nearly as much of the blue collar market. I have never missed him during his absences. He is so immature.
 
Carwful what you ask for. Replacing Eric with Tim not so easy. Did anyone listen a couple of weeks a go when Steve and Eric were out. Also replace Eric with Tim and then all you would see here are complaints about to many impressions and Larry just jamming his opinions down everyone's throats.

Yeah. Did you expect polished perfection from a two day fill-in? Do you think Eric and the news jog gelled with Larry from day one?

And Tim is plenty intelligent to keep up with Larry's wit. That should be obvious to anyone who listens for any length of time.

I just can't listen to them....at least not right now during the political season where they're pretty much preaching to the choir, unchallenge....at least Larry is. Like I said, I can't really listen to them so I can't attest to weather or not Eric challenges him or not...but then again, why would he if the 98% of the listeners would agree with larry's viewpoint.

then again, i don't really qualify it as talk radio so, one has to really take everything they say or do with a grain of salt. they pick on Jesse Ventura...the guy's a nutcase, but so is Ted Nugent. Do they pick on him? Doubt it. It's all for show.

What I don't like is the presentation as of recent. They have fallen into a phase where the arguing is non-stop and selfish at the expense of the listener and again the little sound bites are like a cancer slowly killing the show. They have that long drawn out canned opening that I have endured every morning. First a clip from a previous day, then the larry and eric jingle, standard intro songs one for each of the three, then a prayer for great radio before any word is said. That finishes up at 6:09.

Solution. Change your radio and get up 9 minutes later. The bigger question is, how long before listeners start putting the show off 10 more minutes then 10 more then change stations because the news jog is on and they don't want to sit in traffic and listen to an argument? or they are torturing us with norma lee?

all that said... They are, by a wide margin, the best radio show in Atlanta.

What in the world, dude? They start at 6:05, play a couple of funny clips, and off to the races with their opening comments, etc. Sometimes they intro everyone, sometimes not. To radio people, it probably does get tedious, but we could make the same argument against the tight rotations of music radio. They put those drops up as ringtones so they must be akin to hit songs to the core fan. This version of TRG is more accessible and mainstream than ever, therefore, I think they are doing the right thing by introducing people to the show day after day until it becomes familiar and reliable to newer listeners. The content (yes the arguing, too) keeps it lively and unpredictable. These are tense times, so it's not unusual or corrosive to hear tension during hot topics. That show, to my slightly cynical ears, is real. Flaws and all.
 
You do it 5 days a week!

People who have never worked a morning show have no idea how tough is. Having to come up with original, creative, compelling, topcial and humerous content 20 hrs a week ain't easy!

Regular Guys are the best in the city at doing just that.
