TRHOF Nominating has started

With the Texas Radio Hall of Fame Nominations beginning, I'd like to submit to you 3 folks I've nominated, in hopes you'll give them support. Certainly there are plenty of other deserving folks out there and I would like to know who you've nominated as well. Let's support getting plenty of Houston talent on this years ballot.

Here they are.

Bill Travis - Long time Majic 102 production guy ex KYOK and WPGC as well. Great voice, Great Guy. National v/o for concerts/movies and more.

Randy Schell - 15 years as Creative head at Cox Radio - also engineering/programming consultant to several radio groups. Voice of Judge Alex. Ex - ops manager of 106.9 also at KLBJ

Al Linder - News Director at Mix, 106.9 and 93Q - Also pd at KZFM in Corpus when Glen Beck was his morning man.
 
Another name I would like to throw out there for consideration is Kevin Charles Minatrea aka Kevin Charles - he's a true broadcast professional and one of the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet. Currently doing Sunday evenings at 107.5 The Eagle for Cox - also currently doing news for AM 700 KSEV - not to mention his years of doing news/traffic for Metro as well as working at many other stations across this great state.
 
I was inspired by "Fearless" Fernandez from KEAN making it in to the Country DJ Hall of Fame in Nashville a year or so ago. So, I believe I am going to cast a vote of mine for Roy Gene Munse from KORA in Bryan/College Station.

*I have always maintained that Roy never liked me much, but I sure did like him. :)
 
I joined TRHOF in '08 and it seems like some people are getting in who workied on the air for a very short time. I would think being good on the air for a long time should be priority number one. Why don't they have catagories for jocks, pd's, engineers, sales, news, etc...? I think it's human nature to think a radio hall of fame is for people who talk or have talked on the radio.
The way it now works, couldn't someone who has never been on the air pay for a hundred of his buddies to join the TRHOF fame and block vote him in? That sux.
 
If you look at the list of inductees from 2002you will find that each inductee is deserving of the honor. Ask those who supported them and their families. The link is http://www.texasradiohalloffame.com/trhof-2002-2011-inductees-list.pdf

Sounds like you are mad that you or ones you nominated didn't get enough support to be inducted. Did you urge previous inductees and your radio friends who know your nomineesto support your nominee?

You can't just nominate someone and then sit on your hands; you have to begin a "Get out the support" effort for them. You have Google and e-mail as your way to reach people.

Radio people can be lazy sometimes. There is no magic involved in getting support for a nominee. You have to put in a little or a lot of effort. Evidently, you haven't done what other supporters have done.
 
I think the deadline for nominations was last weekend.
 
RADIOWISE, I paid my 15.00 to be able to vote. This will be my first year to vote so the jury is still out on my being lazy. My experience is 180 degrees different from you. I worked armed forces radio for almost two decades. Pay was crummy, travel was great and the retirement benefits are tremendous, your tax money at work, thanks. Even after learning more about the process, I don't think I would do the popularity thing. I still think a person should get in on track record, talent and experience. Can't get more smarmy than buying memberships for people to vote for you. If your peers don't think you belong, you probably don't. Was glad to see the mention of Kevin Charles, I've always liked his work and that of Dan Gallo. Gallo is playing some newer music on Legends, wish it had a stronger signal.
 
My long-time friend Bill Buchanan has been nominated for induction into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame. Bill is not only a good friend of mine, but I believe Bill is, perhaps, the finest small-market broadcaster in the state...if not the country! Bill owns and operates KSHN in Liberty, Texas. I believe that a good many of his fellow TAB members, as well as others, would agree with my description of Bill.

If you are a voting member of The Texas Radio Hall of Fame, would you PLEASE consider making Bill one of your (3) choices for induction. A number of people in the Liberty-Dayton-South Liberty County area have joined the Texas Radio Hall of Fame just so they can vote for him. Those people are just ordinary citizens (not broadcasters). They so believe in Bill and the remarkable job his radio station has done over the years he's been there, that they have joined together to push for Bill's induction. If you would consider joining us in the effort, it would be greatly appreciated!

Have seen several names on this thread that brought back many memories. Phil Parr is a master at anything he does, and a great guy. Kevin Minatrea is a pro. And Mike Hudman (engineer) and I enjoyed working together in nacogdoches several years back (KEEE/KJCS).
