Tri-Cities holiday format?

I can only get the high-power Tri-Cities stations from here in Ellensburg, but I am surprised that not one of the Adult Contemporary stations has flipped yet to Christmas. Didn't 106.1 go Christmas way back on Halloween last year? The online playlist shows no holiday music. Same with 105.3. It's Power 99.1 that seems to be sprinkling in some top 40 Xmas and some traditional Xmas, while maintaining the regular format. How come an area of over 250,000 people hasn't gotten a Christmas station yet, unless it's on some LP I can't get? Paging seatownmedia.
100.9 Yakima and 99.5 Wenatchee both flipped as of the past 24 hours.

Driving back in today, I had plenty of time to listen. In the Tri-Cities the only two stations I could find playing Christmas music were "Shine 95.7", and "106.1 More FM", both owned by Stephens Media. "Shine" was running all-Christmas, obviously with a slant to Christian artists. "More" was playing about 1-2 per hour, which is somewhat unusual in this "All In" Christmas music gameplan over the past decade. IMMIC, More FM went very early with All-Christmas last year, I think mid-November. I did not hear any Christmas songs on Mix 105.3, but that isn't to say they may be sprinkling some in.

You may be right, Crainbebo. More-FM might have gone right after Halloween. I didn't make note of it at the time, just remember they were quite early. Perhaps a backlash that is marking 2019?

I had to go to Yakima this morning and heard a very weak 102.3 coming down Manastash into Ellensburg with Vince Guaraidi/Peanuts 'O Tannenbaum'. Was this Tri-Country 102, or the La Grande station?

Likely Tri-Country 102, a Jacobs translator. Though not sure why they would be doing Christmas at this point...unless Jeff sees an opening??? He is a smart guy who has done well.

They went Xmas during their time as Smooth Jazz too. But 38 watts doesn't do the best of good especially in areas where KORD bleeds over onto 102.3 on so-so radios.

A thought about Jacobs Media doing a Holiday format - businesses. I had an engineer in working on WDSW last week. He told me a story of one of the stations in Gulfort, MS flipped to the holiday format - that station was a classic country. When the holiday ended, about half of the businesses left it on the station when they reverted back to their normal format.

That'd be a PPM rating power move.

At very minimum, it'd be more exposure and likely not have many downsides.

Cheers,

On that front I've noticed at least throughout this year and last year, Mix 105.3 is *really* leaning Hot AC/Adult Top 40. They are literally the lighter version of Power 99.1. Very few '80s, some '90s, and boatloads of 2010s. What, is Prince, Phil Collins and Cyndi Lauper too old for the Adult Contemporary demo nowadays? Seriously. They are still spun up at 98.1 Spokane and the ACs in Seattle and Portland.
Then you have 106.1 running the same format as 105.3, just even more newer-skewing. 106.1 did not go Xmas at all. What a weird market Tri is. No classic hits except a rimshot in Pendleton and no station running Soft Rock. I guess no love or advertising dollars for 45-55 females and males, except country and classic rock?

I know 102.3 did flip to Xmas last year when they were still Smooth Jazz.

I agree the Tri market is weird. My best guess is the stations are being run by corporate that have little understanding or interest in these type of markets. I mean, seriously, no classic hits? And four Hot AC's? I do like The Eagle, but even then they get off the track occasionally. 97 Rock could be a much better station if they just focused on the real rock hits and stop trying to headbang the listeners into oblivion. But I guess we are getting off the "holiday format" topic...
