Jay Taylor Replaces Ballentine As WBNS PD

The Director/Operations for Triad/Mississippi Media in Biloxi, MS has been chosen to succeed Jeff Ballentine as PD of RadiOhio Hot AC WBNS/Columbus, OH. As R&R reported yesterday, Ballentine is hanging up the headphones and taking a break from the business after a five-year run.

Taylor's previous notable PD stops include KITS (Live 105)/San Francisco and the former KOME/San Jose. He starts May 1.

I'm sure Big Tymer has something to say about this.

I guess it was just karmic payback! Clear Channel and Coast didn't get flood damage, I believe. Yet, CC is closer to the Gulf than Triad!

I knew I was gonna be brought up... hell, they even brought me up on the Columbus board!

To anyone who works at Mix 97.1 up there, be very afraid. HEIL JADOLF!
______________

Field grunts stayed during the Hurricane to try to keep the stations on the air and provide coverage. Taylor hit the road and evacuated. Nice leadership. I can understand him evacuating his family, but his desertion was egregious.

Both the CC group and Triad are south of Pass Road, so it's a toss up. Coast (and the Dowdy group) are well north (right at I-10), although Coast's tower is fairly near the water. Who replaces Jay? Does Kenny Vest return? Scot Fox, who recently left to go to Shreveport? Lucas? Kyle Curley? . . .

I say they should give it to either Kenny Vest or Weerd Wayne. Both have proven their success in the market and Wayne has definatly been loyal to both the market and Triad for over 10 years. Changes will be made by whoever takes over.
______________

One thing is fairly certain. Triad will wait awhile so as to save on paying salary.

I don't see Vest coming back. Wayne was given a shot after Vest left and, right or wrong, mostly wrong, they then inserted the suppository from NoCal.

Lucas? as OM? I shudder at the thought. Although, now that I think about it, Lucas as OM and The Reverend as his assistant would provide enough material for a highly successful sitcom.

On the serious side, Kyle Curley is one of the hardest working people you'll encounter in the business. Truly a Pro's pro.

I think Fehder considers himself a bit of a programmer, so he may keep his hands in it. Besides Wayne, who else was considered before Jaydolf? Anyone???

No one was considered, but their priority with Wayne was WXRG and his airshift (#1 in men in the market).
______________

Hmmmm...very intresting... The good news is that Jaydolph is gone on to trash radio stations elsewhere. Seems like Triad's cluster did nothing but drop in the ratings and a lot of good talent was lost. A strong and firm leader will be a must to turn this sinking ship around. I would say not to expect anyone from the Monkey studio to take the gig (exception to Kyle Curley). Then agian they did hire Jaydolph, so another stupid move might be in store.

Things to happen:

WCPR - don't think it ever hit #1 in the ratings, but it once had a legion of followers and damn good air talent. Now a shell of its former self, the music has lost all its luster and retians its ratings simply because it is the only rock station rolling the newer and heavier rock stuff.

WXRG, found its winner with the BIG SHOW, and Wayne knows his classic rock, keeping the troops tuned in during two major drives. There are a couple of mild improvements that could be made.

The Monkey - has this station ever had any focus or direction? Should have stayed as KISS (way back when) and stayed put. Now...well I don't know what the future will bring, but I wouldn't take bets on the Monkey staying in the stable.

HANK - Should let this one ride for a while and see how it goes. Could have huge potential if it is imaged and marketed right.

WTNI - this thing needs to be draged into the street and shot...what a sorry waste deep sixing the classic VMI calls and frequency, the had major heritage and they trashed it for some generic sounding talk rado s---.
