There seems to be a real lack of talent as far as night guys go in the triad. No one of any note has REALLY made me laugh out loud. JJ McCain is weak and unoriginal. He tries so desperately to be funny that it comes off as forced and unfunny. The night guy on the beat is ok but still unentertaining. Any nighttime entertainers out there?

I disagree... until he came along, nights in the Triad flat out sucked. He's dirty because it plays well with his audience... and he doesn't do it with an ego like his predecessor did. As far as unoriginality goes, I don't know what you're referring to. Where else would you hear calls from "J.J.'s hometown of Advance, North Carolina"? And how many other jocks have you ever heard make two contestants eat copious amounts of plain mayonaise just to win concert tickets? You call that unoriginality? I beg to differ. You may not appreciate his sense of humor either, but that's not to say that his listeners don't. I ask you this: could you get behind the microphone your first night on KZL and get as much of a response out of your listeners as McCain does? If you couldn't claim to, you have no room to talk. No offense, just common sense.<P ID="signature">______________

ANd just because no one else was doing anything before he got here doesn't give him license to broadcast his talentless drivel. He's got nothing to offer. BTW, I'm pretty sure that JJ McCain and JC are one in the same.

I don't really think I am that dirty on the air. I talk about things females talk about. I run a lot of my "dirty" topics by my 26 year old girlfriend. She is a very mainstream female and if the topic isn't dirty to her, I do it.

I have always stated that it is very easy to say little comments and hide behind a screen name. If your going to talk bad about a person, at least use your name.

Oh JJ. The fact that you would even respond to the meaningless rantings of some guy on a radio message board shows the kind of amatuerish attitude you often demostrate on the air. There's a real radio proffessional for ya. The truth is that if you can't take a little critisism maybe another line of work is in order. Judging from your show that might serve everyone best. I know you'll respond because you can't help yourself....sad

I can assure you I'm not J.J. I'm a J.J. fan, but not the man himself.

You guys are way out of line. I am a female and listen to JJ's show quite often. I will not say that I am a friend but I have spoken with him in person and seen him out and about. Notice when you were talking about other night guys you didn't really have any names to mention.

JJ creates talk and that is his job. His show is very female and celebrity driven. All of my girlfriends that have nothing to do with radio listen to him as well. If he talks about something dirty it is always a real life type thing. Why is it, that radio people always try to bring down people that are having success?

You even gave him a hard time for responding to your post. I guess you didn't take him up on his offer of coming in to show him how it's done. This guy is a DJ that people talk about. When I have seen him out in public he is noticed and he always talks to everyone.

In my opinion he is a very stand up guy. Remember, this is coming from a female in his target demo. Not an old man that sits around and posts mean comments about people on message boards.

I just love how the fact that McCain responds to those who criticize him supposedly makes him amateurish and unprofessional. And the automatic assumption that just because he did respond means he can't take criticism... that's a nice little bit of non-logic. Where do you get off, Arbitron2, making comments that you can't possibly defend? Show me the proof that J.J.'s show isn't doing well with listeners (you won't find much). Until you do so, don't just spew your opinion as if it were fact. There is a difference, you know.<P ID="signature">______________

I guess we’ll just have to disagree on the merits of his “show”. Good to see all of his aliases responding though. Again, criticism comes with the territory. Maybe learn to handle it a little better junior. You SHOULD be above chatter on a message board now shouldn’t you.

Let me add my tuppence worth. I have not had the pleasure of meeting JJ. I have on past occasions listened to his show. I am not in the show's target audience (male, 30, work late evening in a call center) nor do I listen reguarly. I have listened in the past, and he's good for the kind of show that he does. He's not what i would prefer to listen to but he's far from objectionable.

However...

Given the state of radio in the Triad, what _live_ late night talent is there apart from JJ on commercial FM radio?

Let me run down the dial, I'll stick to stations above 92...

92.3 WKRR - Nope, at this time of night it's a jukebox.
93.1 WMQX - Gary Ross. He's a director so his shift is VT'd.
93.9 WRSN - Sunny 93.9 airs Delilah.
94.1 WTHZ - Scott Edwards may be live but I don't know.
94.5 WGBT - "James". Don't know him. There's a similar looking James on WBVD in Fl.
95.5 WHPE - If you like that kind of stuff...
97.1 WQMG - Voicetracked, Brian Monds has a dayshift.
98.3 WIST - Most likely some networked fare.
98.7 WSMW - A jukebox is what it's at right now.
99.1 WMAG - Delilah! also on 99.5 WSLQ.
100.3 WVBZ - Cousin Deke is voicetracked & networked.
101.1 WZTK - Your networked Michael Savage and Alan Colmes.
102.1 WJMH - Waleed Coyote may be live, but not for his Sunday 2am shift.
103.5 WBFJ - Let's focus on that family now....
104.1 WTQR - Kix Layton does afternoon drive on other stations, so he's VT.
105.1 WDCG - Brody is live but he's for the Triangle.
105.7 WFMX - Don't know who Mark Rose is or whether he's VT'd.
106.7 WKVE - networked K-Love from CA. Not a lot local here at all.
107.5 WKZL - JJ McCain - live, local.

My guess is if Scott Edwards and Mark Rose are voicetracked, and James is not local (but on another station too) then JJ McCain and Waleed Coyote may be the _only_ evening talent in the Triad. Your alternative are the college stations: WUAG (when on air), WNAA, or WQFS.

Otherwise, it's welcome to networked overnights.
