::) ::) I'm having a real hard time with all of the Triad's TV stations regarding News Coverage and their personalities.. I really believe they have gone to an all time low.. WGHP is the worst, WFMY 2 is a tie and 12 is just plain stupid!.. I'd like to hear from other Triad Broadcasters about what they think! Another question is why most of the anchors are also doing sports? Duh?
 
I'm missing your point. "TV News" is the title for the viewer delivery system used by the local stations to drive advertising dollars. If you were seeking news on the boob tube, you'd have to go back a few decades, back when the FCC actually required public service commitments from broadcasters (not these advertiser supported public affairs shows).
 
I agree with Big Ape! There is some really limp reporting going on in the GSO market. You would think that a top 50 market would have better anchors and/or personalities. Guess the anchors reporting (reading) sports is a cost cutting factor and it sucks. I am not a real big sports fan but do find most of the local sports to be very weak.
 
I actually agree with all of you guys.. I guess TV is going the same route as radio..No personality.. I think 2 is the only one that has any sports guys? Brian Formica (sp)..Well 8 does have a couple of has beens..Kevin Connelly (I thought he made surfboards) 12 in the morning sounds like a Regis Phiman show with all the "giggling" and "Girl Talk"..God that's awful!
 
To me, the most idiotic of shots during a newscast is a reporter standing outside a darkened building saying "This is where so and so met this afternoon to deliberate..." WHY are they not using shots taken AT the dang meeting instead of having this wide-eyed reporter standing out in a parking lot in front of a dark building who-knows-where to say that a meeting had happened there. That's NOT NEWS IT'S HISTORY! If they can't take shots at the meeting they're reporting on, move on, nothing to see here!
 
Blame the Consultants - they pound into the News Directors that LIVE shots make the public believe you are better than the station that reports the news.

Think of how much time is wasted in LIVE shots: Intro, Roll Package, Close, Anchor Questions. Some stations even have bumpers in and out of the LIVE shots.

Could have done 2 real news stories in the same time. (But that would require additional reporters!)

You are so right! Not only the time wasted but financial resources. What does it cost to send a reporter and camera person out into the middle of no where to do a "live" shot. I realize these people are on the payroll and are being paid any way, but you do have the additional expenses (fuel, depreciation, insurance, etc) associated with operating the vehicle and the broadcast equipment. When you're as strapped for cash as news 2 appears to be, they are wasting significant resources when you look at the yearly budget. And as you mentioned, if they could have covered a couple of more stories, wouldn't that make for a better newscast and serve the public better? Opps so sorry, I just realized stations don't care about better newscasts & serving the public in the 21st century.
 
I got one for you...the weather people. How about you tell us up front temperature and chance of precip' and any other major (unusually high winds, etc) things I need to know and then AFTER that you can go into all your toys. I can't stand when they stand there for 5 minutes going through an explanation of why it's going to rain. I don't care if a front is passing through, or upper level disturbances, or what causes humidity. You can do all that to justify all the money you spend on the equipment that comes in handy like 2 months out of the year (tornado season and snow season) later, upfront all I want to know is how hot and will it rain? From a viewing - got things to do standpoint, just give me what I need first, and then you can give me a lesson on fronts and dew points. If I chose to stick around, then fine. But don't make me sit through all that garbage to get to the only info I need. PS: Please stop with the maps of temperatures in different towns and reading them to me: "It's 75 in Lexington, 74 in Greensboro, 71 in Mt Airy". Yeah, I can see that, you don't have to read it to me like a preschooler
 
I agree!!! Local Triad TV needs help!! WGHP-TV 8 needs to get anchors who don`t look like someone is holding a shot gun behind their heads!!! They are WAY to UPTIGHT on TV 8!! RELAX WGHP!!!! And yes, you are WGHP-TV 8!!! I don`t have to hear "FOX" over and over again!!! Local folks around here think of you as WGHP TV 8!!! You do have WGHP "Tv 8.2" which I commend you on! But. TV 8.1 is a MESS!!!! Way too many stupid court shows, etc!!! Why are the anchors SO uptight and SCARED looking on TV 8??? Can please someone tell me??? Thanks!!!
 
I don`t know why WFMY-TV 2 keeps Channel 2.2 weather??? Most of the forecasts are OUTDATED!!! They tape a 3 min. or so segment with a WFMY Weatherman and keep running it over and over and over again for HOURS!!! It is run for about 10 hours until it is replaced by another segment that runs over and over again for 10 more hours!! The forecasts are mostly WRONG and OUTDATED also!!! WFMY-TV 2 should put something like the ME-TV Network on 2.2!!! It would get alot more viewers!

Big Ape failed to read my post correctly!!! I said that I COMMEND WGHP-TV 8 on TV 8.2-Antenna TV. I stated that it is WGHP-TV 8.1 that has all of the problems!!!! I have seen other posters here complain about the nightly newscasts on WGHP-TV 8.2. I switched on WFMY-TV 2.2 Weather Channel today and they are still giving the pollen forecast for this past THURSDAY!!! Check it out!! Also the SOUND on 2.2 is messed it. Some segments the volume is way too LOW!! And on the commericals the volume is way too high!!! 2.2 has many problems....
 
Short correction- nightly newscasts on WGHP-TV 8.1.
