Triad

The Triad has always been bad compared to Charlotte and Raleigh. Even smaller markets have better stations. Why can't the Triad wake up?
I just retired from San Francisco and these stations/computers are worse than anything I have ever heard. It's all corp :(

I wouldn't say the Triad has ALWAYS been bad compared to Raleigh and Clt. It's not like those markets are setting the world on fire. Especially Raleigh. You are correct with the corporate stuff though. IN this day and age, the management will take the path of least resistance. You couple that with micromanagement...or management from afar, and the stations suffer. It's not rocket science...Hire good people and let them do their damn jobs. From the top down. There's no reason to report to 4 or 5 different Regional, Coastal, Senior, General, Brand, Custom managers. Or whatever the hell they call all the chefs in the kitchen that are ruining the soup.

It's like a lot of things: politics, government leadership, pizza stores, sports franchises, one idgit will come in and run things one shortterm way and wreck things longterm, all the while everybody else says "What a great idea" and copies the idgit. Pretty soon, it's Thunderdome and it's all a shambles and there's not a single person left to lead the masses from the muck the idgits created.

Two words: Sirius, XM. Since all of the radio station owners choose to run an automated, canned, cookie cutter, jock in the box, pre-selected, pre-corrected, non-local, non-regional, non-entertaining, radio station loaded down with 30% of the time going to commercials in certain day parts, you might as well get one that does automation right. With real choices. With no commercials.

Very sad but True!!! If local radio wants to act automated, we all may as well leave the 20 mins/hr commercial format and listen to a fomat that does automation right.

I don't see sat radio being a long term player. The continual dropouts are just too annoying.

you all know that WJMH is 100% live and local 24/7.....call the station at 4am on a wednesday morning, somebody will answer the phone....

pretty sure KZL, KRR, Wolf and WQMG are all live and local except overnight. Simon does the no jock thing that alot of Jacks do. Clear Channel is the syndication / automation screw up here in the Triad.

The REAL problem is that stations were allowed to Maximize their signals, allowing stations to cover several communities instead of one. The result being that stations can not afford to be local. The AM'ers are local; but can compete equally with the FM'ers. Look back to the early days of radio, just in the Triad - Rock 92 was a Asheboro station, 102 Jamz was in Reidsville, 107.5 was Wake Forest student radio. The AM stations ruled.

I'm not saying roll back the clock; but roll back the power so community stations can return. (Open: Can Of Worms - I haven't a clue how you can force the reduction of power or programming of local content.)

Pretty sure you are, right you are not. The facts are nowhere near what you are 'pretty sure' of.
