How much lower will G105 go? I’d think 2.0 would be the floor, but I don’t know anymore. The 95.3 translator (WDCG-HD2) is barely behind a class C FM. La Ley and WCPE are beating them, as well as 103.9 The Light. This has to be one of the worst performances of a heritage CHR in a PPM market I’ve seen.

Pulse isn’t far behind also with a 1.6 - which is impressive considering the multiple frequencies can get confusing to a lot of people even though they cover most of the market combined.

At least this is a PPM market, so the meters know what their holders were listening to!
 
G105 and Pulse FM seem to be spreading that already-smaller CHR radio audience too thin. Maybe one will finally blink, unless the numbers we don't see are working for them.

Glad to see the Curtis Media stations in the list again. Nearly a year in, the KIX 'trimulcast' seems to be doing well for the company, and WQDR seems in a better place than a year ago. Poor WPTF, though, heading into their 100th year with a 0.7, and their Classic Rock 92.9 (WQDR (AM) 570) is even lower.

Also, outside of WRAL-FM and WCMC '99.9 The Fan", the Capitol Radio cluster is pretty anemic. WRAL News Plus is down to a 0.1 and AAA '95-7 That Station' didn't even register. Also, I notice their flanker sports brand "The Buzz 620/1550" (WCMC-FM HD2) isn't even listed. As for WRAL News Plus, there was an interesting Inside Radio article last month which indicated the company was pretty pleased with its performance considering they only spent $300K and hired five new employees to launch it. Of course, it also involves an online and TV (WNGT-CD, channel 34) presence in addition to 99.3/96.5/101.5 HD-3.
 
The issue G105 has compared to a lot of the other CHR’s across the country struggling with the lack of compelling new music to play is they have no morning show or talent to keep listeners even when the music is bad. That went away after the Showgram. For many years G105 was the constant in the cluster but it appears those days are gone.

I wonder if re-tooling G105 to Hot AC would help? Might benefit them with some that remember it as an adult leaning CHR in the 00s.

Even though WQDR was quite ahead of it last month, I would think iHeart is pleased with B93.9. They were finally able to make a format on that frequency work and knock 94.7 down a few notches.

Something that always strikes me about the Triangle, demographics considered, is the success of 103.9 The Light WNNL. Urban gospel is a difficult format outside of markets with a high black population, but it’s done quite well for over a couple of decades now. It’s actually one of the higher performing stations Radio One has in the format (and oddly the only one not called “Praise” to my knowledge. Maybe that’s it? 🤣)

In the most recent PPM, we once again get to see Curtis numbers - yikes @ KIX which is behind 96.1 now. It seems the addition of the two other signals haven’t really impacted them one way or the other.

G105 showed signs of a bounce, and Pulse is a little more than half a share behind them.

B93 is catching back up to QDR. How the heck does WTKK do so well? It’s a consistent top 3 performer in 6+ - most of that is probably at the older end, but still - I’m not sure of any primarily syndicated talk stations that are so successful in a market where an NPR is also so dominant. I haven’t lived in the triangle since 2006, but I certainly never thought of it as a market where conservative news/talk would be so dominant. WTKK is by far the highest rated news/talk station in NC, and possibly one of the highest rated in the SE on a consistent basis…. And outside of AM drive, it’s typical syndicated iHeart/Premiere fare.
 
WTKK's numbers have to be from insane TSL. Another site (RadioInsight?) lists the cume as well and they cume a half to a third what WRAL does but get comparable numbers. WRAL is everywhere and people hear it constantly in small blips vs people listening for hours to WTKK.
 
Yep, WTKK has around 1/3 of the cume of WRAL-FM, half of WKIX, and less than half of WBBB. WTKK's cume, however, seems pretty much on par with WUNC's. WUNC's is higher, but so are their ratings. 106.1 and 95.3 have similar cume.

Nice tie between B93.9 and QDR. Is G105 starting to come back?

I don’t see that the “trimulcast” for KIX is helping them do any better than when they were just on 102.9.

Latest PPM for the Triangle shows G105 back over a 4 share while PulseFM is trying to catch up too. QDR has pulled back ahead of B93.9. How the mighty have fallen with WPTF.
 
I listen to WPTF a lot during mornings for traffic and news, and casually at night; It's obvious no one is watching things at night. News updates are very dated, show repeats air countdowns not meant to be heard on-air, top-of-hour news doesn't hit on time half the time, and the schedule is somewhat erratic. Brian Kilmeade usually re-airs at night, followed by Jimmy Faila-tape delay- at 10pm, but you might get Dana Loesch in Kilmeade's spot, or you may get paid financial/health shows.

Their local news is often dated, by days, as well, even in the daytime dayparts. That's a somewhat expensive, labor-intensive format to do, especially with those kinds of ratings. WPTF will be 100 years old in September, too.
 
Looking at the April Nielsen PPM Monthly ratings for Raleigh-Durham, WRAL News+, which airs on two translators and an HD-3, has pulled slightly ahead of WPTF (0.7 to 0.6).

Somebody needs to stick a fork in WPTF. I wonder how much longer Curtis will keep the talk format going before flipping it to something just to feed the translators.

PulseFM is seeing some nice numbers. They’ve moved ahead of 103.9 which is pretty impressive.
