Tribune/CW Split Scenario

so they'll run CW as normal (7-9 local) and then delay the My Network programing.

Its nice to see WGN get back "to its roots" as a Independent.

Glad to see WGN going back to independent as they are better off going that direction. Was hoping Tribune would let go of the CW with other stations, especially markets like New York, LA, DFW, and Miami since those markets have a CBS-owned independent station (except Miami with a CBS-owned MyNetworkTV station) that could go the CW route.

And meanwhile because of syndex the rest of the country--including the Midwest outside of Chicago DMA--will still be stuck with WGN America.

I wish there was a way to have a 3rd WGN--"WGN Midwest" (for all/parts of at least Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, etc.) that would still have most of the national WGN lineup BUT still show the WGN local Chicago newscasts and the Chicago sports programming aired on the local WGN. Then let the rest of the country outside of the immediate Midwest get stuck with "WGN America."

There are those outside the midwest that would like to have WGN local back. Unfortunately, WGN America ignores most comments about this. WGN America is my least watched cable channel...their line-up, IMO, is dismal. I would rather watch a shopping network than that piece of ...Tribune.

I haven't watched WGN since hey dropped Out of Sight Retro Nights and Corner Gas. but I'll give them credit that it probably played a factor in the start of Antenna TV and Me TV.

What they they air on nights when sports aren't available? Do high school sports have a big following in the Chicago area like they do in Texas?

Syndex as I mentioned above. They want to run fresher syndicated fare in Chicago, and that would cause them to be blacked out in markets where a station broadcasts the same show.

Also, sports would be blacked out. The era of the Superstations is over, and the leagues want us to buy the cable/satellite or internet packages for out-of-market local broadcasts. We'll never see the Braves on TBS again, either.

And WGN News is available via their website. No need to put it on the bird.

The idea of broadcasting past "Bozo" programs on a regular basis seems more likely. It could possibly lead to a new "Bozo" program.

No it won't. The days of local kids entertainment/cartoon shows are long over. I'm not sure that the FCC would even allow a Bozo's Circus without the boring educational content. Besides, aside from Joey D'Auria (the 2nd Bozo), pretty much everybody that was connected with that show has since died. Even if WGN were to resurrect it, it wouldn't be the same.

Neither are today's kids the same as we were -- they have so much more to do and learn, and better technology to do it with, than we had. Now get off my lawn! :D

they could still run the news on WGN America if they wanted to, but Chicago expats must be a small niche

Actually, they're a large niche in the southwestern states (California, Arizona, maybe New Mexico), just like Noo Yawk-expats are a large niche in Florida. But I doubt that there are enough folks who want or need to watch WGN-TV news on satellite anymore. Chicago news is available elsewhere to those who seek it.

it was mostly old snowbirds who were complaining on Facebook when they took off the 9PM news from WGN America, yet they won't or can't figure out how to stream the news

Or maybe there are a few who prefer to watch WGN in front of a tv instead of a computer or phone. And yes, I know you can feed a stream to your tv, but there is only so much tech seniors will accept. But I digress.

I assume you mean Braves regular season games on TBS, but we won't be seeing any Braves post-season games on TBS either anytime soon. The Braves were unable to use TBS to attract a national following like the Cubs used the WGN Superstation feed tom Cubs fans even outnumbered Braves fans at Turner Field during the 03 post-season
