Tribune News

With news of possible Tribune bankrupcy, any thoughts/ideas what will happen to the Hartford TV dial? Trib owns WTIC-TV and WTXX along with the Hartford Courant. Given the ramp-up of news operations at FOX 61, does it seem likely that WTXX or the Courant get sold?

This is too bad. I like the new look of "TXX" and really enjoy FOX61's Morning Show when I'm home to watch it. Maybe Washington will give Tribune a bail-out too (insert sarcasm here). God knows our local media affects us more directly than anything going on in Detroit!

It's interesting that when WTNH and WFSB reported this news, they both only mentioned the Hartford Courant, WTIC-TV|FOX61, and weekly publications. Neither of them mentioned WTXX. Am I missing something here: is WTXX owned by someone else or is the staff at 3 and 8 ignorant of the fact WTXX is owned by Tribune too?

Either way, I hope WTIC-TV doesn't back out their plans to add a noon and evening newscast this spring. We need more choice here.

I can't really speak for Channel 3, but Channel 8 appears to be clueless most of the time.

A TV insider website says Tribune may be shutting down ALL local news at their stations, except at WGN in Chicago and KTLA in Los Angeles.

But they invested a lot to expand in Hartford the last few months. BTW - next April marks the 20th anniversary of the News at 10.

I find that hard to believe given all the expansion at WTIC. And, you're implying that they would shut down the WPIX news division? I doubt that.

I would doubt that. I read somewhere FOX Network requires all the affiliates to have a 10PM Newscast at the minimum. Not all Tribune stations are affiliated with The CW. A couple others besides WTIC-TV are affiliated with FOX.

True. But the station does not have to produce the newscast themselves. Another station in the market could do it for them.

That would go back to the day when NBC 30 has news on 10 on WTXX.

Also Tribune owns a ABC station in New Orleans I doubt they would cut news there.

"And that's T.I.C. - tonight in Connecticut"... Happy 20th anniversary to that!
