Tribune sells Atlanta station

Tribune's first non-core station sale has been announced. Gannett will buy WATL (going MyNetwork in the fall) from Tribune for $180 Million. This will create a duopoly with WXIA-TV (11 Alive/NBC).I suspect WPHL in Philadelphia will be next.

Probably, and I mentioned Tribune is likely to divest WPHL. But, I hope it'd be NBC that bought out WPHL, not Fox. Even though they both would use it as a dumping ground of shows from their main affiliate (WCAU-NBC, WTXF-Fox), of the two, NBC would place better shows on it (like an Ellen rebroadcast), and a competing 10pm newscast would still be around. Fox would just move the courtroom crap to it.When it happens in Philly, there will only be 4 significant competing station groups: NBC, Disney(ABC), Fox, CBS -- which isn't a great thing for a large market.Atlanta still has WTBS, along with CBS(CW), Gannett(NBC), Fox, Meredith(CBS) and Cox(ABC).I'd expect WATL to carry Dr.Phil, the second broadcast, once Gannett is able to run programming of the station.

In San Francisco, KRON will be apparently getting away with running MyNetwork from 9pm -11pm with Dr.Phil at 8pm. Dr.Phil is proven and likely to keep higher ratings at the more important 8pm. I wonder if Gannett could do the same thing.

What's wrong with running MyNetwork from 9-11 PM? At least they'll run MyNetwork's Primetime. If I'm News Corp., I'll take it.Just my opinion :)Cheers :)Pat
