Ever since DirecTV dropped it nearly a year ago from it's services, the future of the NBC/Universal-owned cable/satellite network Trio has been uncertain.
Today (November 21st), it was announced that Trio will cease being distributed on cable and satellite as of January 1st. But Trio isn't going away completely. It will be available on the Internet, and at least some of Trio's current programming will follow.
This is a Mediaweek.comn article on the demise of Trio as a cable/satellite network. By contrast, this is an NBC/Universal press release which is classic "spin": It touts the move to the 'Net in the first paragraph. Only in the second paragraph is it announced that Trio will no longer be available on cable or satellite.
Could this be the wave of the future: Cable/satellite networks that have struggled for distribution on those two platforms deciding to switch to distribution via the Internet??
