Tripp West

I guess Tripp West's non-compete with Star94 is done, since I heard him in the Bull this morning.
On that note. might I just plead w/Scott Lindy to put Tripp on permanent in afternoon drive. I mean, I like Lance and all that, but Tripp is a notch or two above that and would really give the Bull a rock solid line up from start to finish. They have been doing lights out in the ratings recently, and I thing having Tripp on there every day would just propel them up even further in the ratings, and they may even catch Kicks. Lance could stay on and continue as misic director, which he's bee doing a bang up job anyway.

Another option would be to put Tripp on The Grove, as was suggested in another thread. He's definitely too good a personality to not be on the air.

The Bull is by far the best country station in Atlanta. I hate the "hits" stations. There's so much more music. Of course, Tripp West would sound kind of weird on a country station ... I think.

Tripp can do ANY format. And Country is more contemporary than it used to be. Glad he's back on-air! Tripp is a great talent!

Today's country stations sound contemporary. Jason Pullman and Kristen Gates were both on CHR stations. The home stations of The Bull's voice-tracked talent, Madison Reeves and Ty Bentli, are CHR's in Birmingham and Chicago, respectively.

I think Tripp sounds good on The Bull. You're probably just not used to him on a country station.

It may be worth pointing out that PM Drive has been the best performing daypart on the Bull, especially vs. Kicks.

PMD

May 2009: 12+, Kicks 3.9, Bull 3.5 (P18-49, Bull 3.9, Kicks 3.1)

June 2009: 12+, Kicks 3.9, Bull 3.7 (P18-49, Bull 4.4, Kicks 3.4)

July 2009: 12+, Kicks 4.0, Bull 3.9 (P18-49, Bull 4.4, Kicks 3.8 )

August 2009: 12+, Kicks 4.3, Bull 4.2 (P18-49, Bull 4.9, Kicks 4.4)

September 2009: 12+, Kick 5.0, Bull 4.3 (P18-49, Bull 5.1, Kicks 4.8 )

Lance... you're better than that. No need to toot your horn man. Congrats on the numbers but one person saying Tripp should do PMD shouldn't bring out your insecurities. Lol... Keep up the good work!

A more CHR approach to country would help broaden the reach of country radio.
High intensity, very tight, with lot's of sizzle imaging might attact more kids who aren't interested in the "folksy" approach to country that seems to work with older demos.
I loved Rhubarb but many sophisticated city listeners didn't go for his "hey-here" approach. Tripp, and other CHR groomed talent will be a lot less "rural" and more easy to relate to for most "city dwellers."
Remember Y106 in the Bob Neil days? Formatically, it was exciting-high energy - and very tight....it sounded very CHR only with country music. Times are different but it seems people like the energy.....especially the 18-34s. Tripp West would have fit in perfectly at the old Y106.
With Taylor Swift quickly enveloping every radio format except Urban(and that's probably next) it's a prime opportunity for country to build listener base.
I would play the music 3-4 % fast too. Why don't stations do that anymore? Everything sounds better 4% fast - probably Classical sounds better 4% fast.
I'll have to try that with some Chopin some afternoon........
