Triv on MMS and Maxwell on TAM

Did anyone else catch this yesterday? On my way home between 4:00 - 4:15 I turn on MMS to hear Triv and his crew, turn over to TAM and I hear Maxwell and his crew. Triv and co. were taking calls asking people about how MMS music makes them feel, how much better they sound on MMS vs. TAM, and various differences between their TAM studio and the MMS studio. I heard Maxwell only for about a minute and he was making fun of Triv. He also took a call and asked the caller "What boring Trivisanno topic do you want to talk about?", or something like that.

I turned the radio back on about 5:15 and each personality was on their normal station. So, did anyone else hear this? If so, what more did Triv do on MMS and Maxwell do on TAM? How long did this go on? Why did they do it? How was it? <P ID="signature">______________

I have no frigging idea why the people at Clear Channel Cleveland keep bending over backwards to prop up this mediocre (at best) clown. First, they fire their top-rated FM drive guys (Howitt and Wright). Then they put Triv on the Browns Network before the games, insisting to affiliates that he be allowed to plug his daily WTAM show! WAKR in Akron would not be strong-armed, by the way, and runs the feed on delay and cuts out Triv's WTAM plug. Good for them.

Insiders tell me that, at one point, they wanted to swap Lanigan and Triv as a "hilarious April Fools joke" one year, in a shameless attempt to expose Triv to the biggest audience in Cleveland radio (Lanigan's morning show). Lanigan--from what I understand--refused to do it.

Opie and Anthony blew a giant hole in Triv's ratings in just one book. Sooner or later, some talk-based show is going to go up against him, and that will be the end of the fat one's reign as "The King Of All Eat-ia".

Yep. It was rank. It was sophomoric, at best. Clearly the inmates took over the asylum. And when you have 50 stations along one hallway, that can easily happen. Bottom line, It really sucked on both sides of the dial. Davis and Metheny must be on vacation, eh?

The best thing about yesterday's Triv show was the comedian from Hilarities.

The funniest part is - you suckers are still listening.

WTAM and Trivisonno OWN you all.

Your inexperience is showing Freddie Boy, because "OWN" is way too strong of a word and a gross exaggeration, but yeah, it's kinda like driving by a bad car wreck, sometimes you don't wanna look...but you do. You know I mean?

I'll just never undestand the Triv bashing.

We could go on all day about Triv lack of education, lack of knowledge of sports and politics - but at the end of the day, that has nothing to do with whether you can do good radio. Triv's been doing good radio for a long time now. He has great participation w/ the callers and genuinely knows how to make people keep listening to his show. Greg Brinda knows a ton of sports..and guess what, nobody cares b/c his show is awful. Same for Kevine Keane. If you guys think the inmates are just simply running the asylum and that this wasn't a calculated move...you're not exactly paying attention. Triv will be doing morning drive in 2 years...and that's a fact - after Lanigan retires.

At least one other Browns affil won't run Triv...

The same goes for WEOL/930. They will pre-empt the first 30 minutes of the Browns pregame for a live service from the Elyria United Methodist Church (11a-12p Sundays)... which, IIRC, they've run for most - if not all - of their existence.

True, it's not really a *blockade* of Triv on WEOL, but the team is so goddamn awful that they may forever play 1p-4p Sunday games. Which means while Triv bloviates on the rest of the network about how great the 4-12 Browns are, WEOL would rather run a preacher.

As Seinfeld would say, "not that there's anything wrong with that..." ;)

And Allison will have to find a real job. Boo-freaking-hoo.

That will never happen! Triv is perfect for afternoon drive, and people won't want to hear that in the morning. It's just like down at WTVN in Columbus...Corby will never be morning drive there after Bob Conners retire because Corby is perfect for afternoon drive, and you need someone else to do mornings because of the news/traffic/interviews/information.

I have listened to Triv since I have family in the Cleveland area...he is perfect for afternoon drive, but would never listen to him if he was doing their morning show, or any morning show for that matter.

So who will read the books of the guest authors to Triv? Lanigan reads like crazy, and it shows in his interviews. Triv is illiterate. If Triv replaces Lanigan, they will have to change the whole show into something completely different.

you don't think Lanigan's listeners would just gravitate over to Triv if he had the morning gig? I'm surprised people don't think he would work. Someone brought up the examples of reading the books - which most morning show hosts only skim and have to play it off. I think that would Triv's bit, he doesn't read the books, and he wants to guests to tell him why he should.

Personally...I would not want to hear his "humor" in morning drive. I want the news, traffic, weather, and information in the morning, and something like Triv or Corby in Columbus on my way home from work. If Triv is so good for morning drive, he would be doing it by now. CC is not stupid in that area.

> you don't think Lanigan's listeners would just gravitate

Probably not. Lanigan's appeal is that he is not only funny and caustic, but is VERY well read and smart about what he talks about. It shows in his ability to nail politicians with facts and converse with authors in a way that reveals far more about them and their books than anybody else in Cleveland morning radio can do. Also, when he has a film or TV star or commedian on, he knows their work, since he is very plugged into the whole showbiz scene.

You see, this is why he is number one!

Triv? Oh, please. Does not read books. Does not know anything about politics or social issues. Is oblivious to even some of the biggest stars in film and TV today.

Like I said, if Triv ever replaces Lanigan on the morning show, the show would have to COMPLETELY CHANGE from a "smart" show with a smart host to a "dumb" show with a dumb host. I can't help but think that a great deal of the present Lanigan audience would not be interested.

What do you think a good portion of Lannigan listeners tune to on the way home? (Hint: NOT NPR.)

And how many listeners did Triv loose when a SECOND talk show (Opie and Anthony)
went up against him? Hint: The number is over 50%.

With all of the other talk choices that exist today in morning drive, why would anybody listen to Triv in the morning? I can see him doing a sports-oriented morning show on an all-sports station, but a general show against a dozen other talk choices, when he couldn't cut it against ONE competitor (Opie and Anthony)? Come on!
