Triv vs. Rizzo

This guy is annoying.

He's an acquired taste...like scotch.

Rome himself admits that, although he uses beer as an analogy for acquired taste. As for "C-town", he has strange nicknames for almost every city, especially ones he's been airing in for a long time. I doubt those are fake calls, it's pretty well known that Cleveland is his strongest market east of the Mississippi. But I can still see why KNR did what they did. Rizzo's not bad-in the 10-12 time slot I'm making him a regular listen over Cowherd, Beck, Frank Beckmann on WJR, whatever in hell CKLW is running, and the local brokered sports show on Toledo's joke of a Fox Sports Radio station (which then picks up Rome at noon). And he's light years better than Triv, too, IMHO. Now if only he'd lay off that damn basketball buzzer/crowd groan sound bite a little..

I highly disagree. Rizzo's show is one of the worst in town, and one of the worst in the country (think "Petros and Money" bad). And that's mainly because of Rizz's horrid supporting cast, who are indelibly wedded to owner Craig K. (The basketball buzzer sounder is a typical Goldhammer crutch, which means it will never go away.) tRBS can't be saved.

Even though the current incarnation of The Triv Show can't hold a candle to The Triv Show from 1996-2002, the current Triv Show is STILL light years better than tRBS. That says a lot, and it's mostly not good. Mainly what an outright joke the sports talk scene is in the entire Cleveland market.

As for WCWA/1230... well, they also have a four-hour brokered smooth jazz show in morning drive. It's beyond joke status.

ha! that made me laugh out loud! They still use that buzzer sound? Oh boy.

But I must dissagree. Saying Triv is "better than tRBS" is like saying cancer is better than a firing squad. Neither is desirable! Think about it! This thread is discussing two shows that just are cliche ridden sub par copy cat format embarassingly awful ( like the sports teams here ), yet they hold the attention of media types because other than the show on Magic, thats all this market has. Yikes! Sad state of affairs.

Speaking of historical perspective,Triv today reminds me of the Buzzard Morning Zoo right before Howard Stern came in and took all their audience in less than a year......fat, lazy, and " mailing it in " before that term was a pop culture descriptor. Trouble is I don't see a modern day Howard Stern ( innovative, revolutionary, ratings hurricane, rock radio steamroller, yada yada ) signing on to show the present day Cleveland radio hosts how the professionals from the big city do it.

Let's not forget the other show starved for attention with one Shane "Rover" French. Rover's show, with a sophomoric supporting cast that hasn't changed much in the past seven years, mails it in every day as badly as Triv. He's apparently still "syndicated" despite having only ONE affiliate left outside of WMMS (also-ran alt-rocker WZNE in Rochester, New York).

That isn't being "syndicated," it's having a repeater station.

This is the best post, and best comparison I have read in a long, long time.

Again, The Triv Show is a far cry from what it was "back in the day" - when it was actually funny with a good support cast (Rado, Marty, Jerry Jaye... hell, even Kim!). And with no other stations wanting or caring to make any effort whatsoever to develop any good talent (WKNR doesn't count, and never will as long as Craig K. owns it) nor any obvious can't-miss national star like Stern on the horizon, the talk landscape around here will stay the same depressed and boring for a long time to come.

Triv will do anything to get people to talk about him. Rizzo does a good show and doesn't engage in those type of antics

I think KNR may have admitted something without admitting it.

Rizzo has been out the last couple of days, but instead of letting Hammer and Ned run loose for 4 hours, they brought in Greg Brinda to have a grown up on the show and baby sit the 2 brats.

Last time Rizz took a vacation, It was the Hammer and Ned Show for a whole week... :'(

They'll never say it publically, but I think they now kinda realize that Hammer and Ned need a grown up with them to hold their hand, and can't (and shouldn't) do a show themselves.

I'm no fan of the "let the producers/sidekicks carry the show when the main host is gone" routine, which WTAM also regularly does with "The Triv Show Without Triv".

Maybe they think fans of the show won't notice half the time, but there's a reason they pay Rizzo and Triv the bucks.

I don't think it's a bad idea for a weekend extension of the weekday show, like WTAM is doing now with the Triv gang, but it should be done sparingly (like, one day a week when the main host is gone, or in holiday weeks) in the regular time slot.

Rizzo is probably on his World of Good Karma tour.

Well, KNR does the "Really Big Show-Saturday" from 9-noon with Hammer doing a straight sports show and toning down the act he does during the week.

Of course, when Buckeyes football is in season, this show goes away for the 12 hour Roda/Munch/occasionally Bentley OSU pregame show.

On 1100 when Triv is out, they either do a "best of" show (mainly during holidays), have evening host (and eventual Triv successor I think) Bob Frantz fill in, or bring in frequent sub-host Chuck Galetti.

They don't let Gohman, Seth, and Jennifer loose during the week. Weekends is another story, and is perfect for them (as well as Hammer and Ned up the dial) to play host without the pressure of trying to fill the void of the star (Triv/Rizz)

I think GKB kinda learned their lesson...during the week, ya need a grown up to hold down the fort.

They do "The Triv Show without Triv" occasionally during the week, but not very often. You're right, it's mostly fill-ins like Galeti, Frantz or Matt Patrick from time to time, but they have done the "Triv Show Without Triv" very infrequently. (Heck, they did that more in the earlier era of the show, with Rado/Allen/Kim/etc.)

They might have done it more ealier because Rado and Allen are certifiably talented.

Rado/Allen/Kim > Gohman/Seth/Jennifer

Gohman/Seth/Jennifer > Hammer/Ned/Sabrina
