Trivia Question

This would be fitting for that show on KERA 90.1 at noon on Fridays. The show where people call in seeking answers to any question they have, no matter how mundane. I'm not ever where I can call in to that show, so I'll ask it on here. "Does the name of Loop 820 in Ft. Worth have any connection to WBAP ?"

Beltway freeways that are part of the U.S. interstate system always have 3 digits and the first digit has to be even, so I doubt if the 820 designation has anything to do with WBAP.

However, I don't know why they picked 820 for Fort Worth. In Tennessee, interstate 40 has 240 in Memphis, 440 in Nashville, and 640 in Knoxville. There is no 220, 420 or 620 in Texas, so it is kind of strange they named it 820.

The '40' in Tennessee sites the main artery to which the loop is attached. I-40 runs through those cities. In Dallas, 635 is the loop for I-35E; Ft Worth, 820 for I-20; San Antonio & Houston, 410 & 610 for I-10. (SA could have been 435 and HOU 645.)

It's not unlike the same coincidence that I-65 runs through Nashville and in it's heydey as a hot A/C, WSM called itself Radio 65 and used the interstate logo. Similarly I-75 through Atlanta with 75(0) WSB and I-85 in Denver with KOA at 85(0).

The last 2 digits are the Interstate highway that makes up part of loop... I-20

No..........

But, whether there was any real connection or not, it's kinda funny for the announcers/reporters/traffic people to say '820' if they are on 1080 or one of the other AMs here 8) (at least there's no '1080'-numbered roads around here that someone on 820 would have to mention)
