Trivial Shade 45 Question

Yes, as the title implicates, this is a trivial question, but it's been bothering me: does anyone know why Sirius and Eminem chose the name Shade 45? Wouldn't it make more sense to call it Shady 45?? No one calls Eminem Shade. Its almost like they misprinted the original announcement and said, "well, we already announced it..might as well keep it Shade."

Was there ever anything made public about the name?

Well, my opinion is that "Shade 45" was more intended to indicate a lifestyle/brand image, rather than specifically referring only to Eminem aka "Slim Shady" himself.

Shade 45 indicates to the consumer that it's a specific degree of shadedness (or shadiness if you like) - it is expansive enough to include the variety of DJs and rappers that are part of the "posse" that appear on the channel. IIRC, 50 Cent has his own show on Shade 45.

If it was "Shady 45", wouldn't people expect to hear Eminem himself on there all the time? I think it was a smart choice because the name of this Sirius stream connects to a personality without being overly dependent on the personality for an identity. Eminem has put out his last album (so he claims) as "Slim Shady". So if the channel was too closely related to that identity, it would have to be renamed/reformatted.
