Trivisonno Marathon

Let me preface this by saying I'm not always the biggest Trivisonno fan...

With that being said, the first 4 hours of his marathon show have been absolutely outstanding.

The guest list for this show has been second to none. Triv had Eric Wedge in studio for an hour at 3:30, Mike and Sharon Hargrove from 4:30 to 5:15 and then Art Modell on the phone from Baltimore for almost an hour. After some reaction to the Modell interview and disclosing that Modell identified George Voinovich as the prominent Ohio politician who told him to move the Browns, Triv moved on to interview current Browns GM Phil Savage at 6:30.

Savage's interview was cut short due to Senator Voinovich calling to tell his side of the story regarding Modell moving the team. He all but called Modell a liar.

Regardless of what you think of Trivisonno, he's done an amazing job with this show. While some may think his interview style is a bit vanilla, the fact is that he can be masterful at getting information without alienating the people he interviews. He got a lot out of Modell without crossing the line - the same went for Voinovich. He also did a great job of getting Mike Hargrove to open up about his relationship with John Hart.

I'm sure many will disagree with me and many think they could do better. Regardless, I'll give credit where credit is due and Mike Trivisonno deserves a lot of credit for the product he has produced thus far with his marathon.

Re: sounds like the show he should do everyday..

instead he just wastes time TRYING to make jokes with sexual inuendo try to think of something that will "shock" the listener, like dropping a so-called racist remark (ie: saying "shut up marty you dumb black guy" or something like that ...

i feel the show is a total waste of ratings. couldn't triv get the cities movers and shakers to pop in for serious interviews, local business owners to talk the city up, talk to local celebs. instead he chooses to tease the sports guy or the traffic guy, or the news guy and just waste time between each news-traffic-sports update....

Who cares about hearing local businessmen and politicians on that show? Where a situation deems it, maybe, but not for entertainment and information. Life has enough headaches.

If you don't understand it, don't try to explain it. Otherwise it just comes out as envy.

i heard triv tonite between 9 and 10. he had jim chones(in studio) and bernie kosar(on phone) on tonight discussing a subject that many guys have a hard time with, and that is building strong, healthy relationships with our families. both men admitted they lost sizable chunks out of their children's and spouses lives because they were professional athletes, and that they are taking the time NOW to be with their families. very good radio.
their conversation was followed up after the news by a caller who paid his 14 year dues for his crime and thanked triv for teaching him how to talk and relate with his grown sons. triv admitted he was so overwhelmed, he didn't know how to receive the compliment except to say thank you.--david5258

what i was trying to say it that the show for the most part lacks substance, actually the show lacks a show. unlike wills in the morning who actually does informs you, most days triv's show has neither substance or entertainment. with the time devoted to the news, traffice, sports, and the ungodly number of commercials, the litle time that triv does have is wasted , in my opinion.

i am certainly not envious , because i am not in the business, just a guy that listens to the radio for 10 or more hours a day. but i do have to admit that it does irk me when triv tries to take credit for the ratings. anyone with a critical ear could see that there are many , many more people who could do the same thing (or even better) with the surroundings that triv has . maybe it is not too obvious to someone who listens for 15 minutes on the way home every night and i guess that may be who they ultimately target as a listener.

Re: sounds like the show he should do everyday..

Like it or not the point is to get listener's attention. And many like yourself, still listen. There are other stations that have plenty of "anybody's" plugged in on shifts and they stink. (Not necessarily in Cleveland, it's not a market knock.) Your point is optimistic for people who would eventually like to try and succeed Triv, but don't let them forget it took a lot of talent and some good decisions to get to this point. In radio, you can almost consider it successful - just to have people spend this much time trying to measure your success.

I remember back when Triv was brought in to replace the Henderson/Jeff & Flash days and how some predicted he would do very well because he's so "Cleveland". Maybe that's a market knock, although I come from the market, too, but it seems the level of stimulation required here is much less than would be of elitists in NYC or SF.
