Trop opening--Maine, Cape, RI etc

Here in Beverly last night I noted a bit of a trop opening with the Cape, ME, RI, etc. coming in--sometimes these stations do pop in but in some cases they were surprisingly strong

106.9 classical (ME coast?)
105.9 community radio Portsmouth NH?
104.7 Ocean 104.7 from Cape, VERY strong
105.1 Prov.
103.9 Cape Country
etc

Oh OK but I got something on 105.9. Maybe public radio from Newport RI

Also got 98.9 WCLZ very strong

The 105.9 LPFM in Newport would be very difficult to hear. I've now heard over 1800 FM stations from here, and still haven't heard that one. The most likely 105.9 to hear would be the religious WBCI in Bath, ME. They were booming in here last night.

its pretty annoying. being quite far from Brockton and Mattapan both but enjoying the music emanating from such locales, to hear some awful 'BIG ROCK 96.5, PORTLAND MAINE' or wahtever just booming in

Troopo is strong tonight. I'm pulling in stations from all over the place including Maine, Northern New Hampshire, Cape Cod, Rhode Island, Connecticut, And New York. Here's my log all stations were received on an Insignia HD portable radio in Billerica MA.
92.7 WMVY
93.5 Frank FM
95.1 WXTK*
95.5 WPLJ fighting with WBRU ?
97.3 WJFD
97.9 WJBQ
98.1 WCTK*
98.3 WLNH
98.9 WORC *
99.1 WPLM*
99.9 WQRC*
101.3 WKCI*
101.9 WCIB*
102.3 WGTX
102.9 WBLM and WPXC
103.9 WKPE
104.7 WOCN*
105.5 WJYY
106.1 WCOD* fighting with WBLI
107.1 WFHN
107.5 WFCC*
107.7 WTPL
Plus various UNID's in the non commercial band as well as some in the commercial band.

RDS*

Here in Beverly some of those stations come in regularly like 99.1 and 97.3 but I was also getting Cape's
95.1, 103.9, 104.7 (strong), 107.5...the 98.9 I was getting was WCLZ from Portland

WQRC is a regular summer visitor and I have also picked up New Haven's 101.3 before--or Augusta ME

Here in southern Worcester county I was able to log these three using a Sony XDR-F1HD and an FM6, between 1 and 2AM...

95.1 CFCY Prince Edward Island
97.3 CHWV St. John, NB "The Wave"
103.3 WMCM Rockland, ME "The Bear"

The catch on 103.3 was interesting in that even though the analog signal walked all over WODS, I still kept getting a lock on WODS-HD1. I had to really tweak the antenna to keep from locking on the HD signal, but still be able to hear WMCM.

Tonight at around 9:00 I heard a country station on 94.1 FM. I imagine it was CHSJ from St.John since I have caught it before. I was in Plaistow, NH and received it on my Insignia HD portable radio. It faded out before I could catch an ID.

On the maine coast, outside bar harbor on May 22 I recieved:

Kiss 108 boston, WFCC cape cod, WMJX boston, WHXQ scarbough, WSHK Portsmouth, WROR boston, WBOQ north shore, WXLO central mass, a county station on 103.9 from canada ?, WODS boston, z 103.5 halifax, WCIB cape cod, WGIR manchester, K 100.5 yarmouth ?, 99.9 WQRC cape cod, sports hub 98.5, 97.3 saint john, 97.5 WOKQ, 96.7 WQSO rochester nh, all three of the CLJS stations canada, classic hits 92.7 canada ?. Also got most of the big portland stations, wblm, wpor, wbci, wclz, but that is not that unsual

Two weekends ago i thought WCLZ, Portland ME at 98.9 had changed format. I picked it up in Melrose, MA - which is not too unusual. Turned out to be 98-9 XFM in northeastern Nova Scotia - maybe 500 miles away, almost all over the ocean.

I was getting WPLM in Manchester NH today around noon, and a friend of mine pointed me to a youtube video from earlier this month where a DX'er in Tampa Florida was getting a station from Bar Harbor and WPLM both on 99.1 fading in and out over each other.

1300 miles isn't bad for a FM

This works with Police Scanners as well. I remember a long time ago my Scanner started picking up Police Departments with thick heavy accents from down south. It sounded just like the Dukes OF Hazard. It was very amusing to listen to.

I got 92.3 the moose at a gas station off of rt 128 in Waltham ma area
