Tropo DX and E-skip at the same time?

Is it ever possible to receive a station or stations from the same area via tropo and via E-skip at the same time? I imagine California to Hawaii tropo and E-skip could be possible at same time although extremely rare. Has anyone ever documented such unusual DX conditions?

It would have to be some real good long distance tropo but tropo is best at night and early morning, times when e skip is much less likely.

Also, the time of year when tropo is the best, at least here anyway, is early spring and there's no e skip then.

I've gotten tropo here in Tampa from across the Gulf in Texas and I've gotten e skip from there too but at two different times of the year and there's no real overlap with our tropo season and the start of the e skip season.

Maybe it's different up north but I've never gotten tropo up there that would equal the distance of even the shortest e skip which is around 500 miles.

Maybe on the Gulf Coast. You could have Tr from NOLA or other areas mixing with Es at times.

I have actually gotten "double-hit" DX at the same time. From my Stoughton, MA location back in '94, WYFI/99.7 Norfolk, VA came in via tropo early in the day and once again later that day with an e-skip opening as well as many other Tidewater (VA) and Carolina stations. WYFI is a curious animal. I have heard this station on trops, e-skip, meteor scatter AND aurora! 99.7 (in my area) was a great DX frequency until Wakefield-Peacedale, RI fired up on the frequency a few years back. My equipment was nothing special, a SONY VX/STR750 receiver (w/110 kHz filters) and a 5 element Yagi (with the "Armstrong" rotor). You'd be amazed on what people use to get those DX stations! :) So, in answer to the question.....YES, trop and e-skip from one particular station is possible! :)

So you are correct if we're talking about within the same day.

I thought maybe the OP meant at the exact same time of day, tropo and e skip of one station or stations being received on the radio all at once.

Tropo and e-skip of the same station would sound just like multipath.

I have had e-skip during a tropo opening. The presence of tropo seemed to enhance the e-skip, but also confuse me as to which stations are coming in via which mode, and the tropo eats up all the empty frequencies.
