TROPOS are GO!

FM reception was getting a little crazy this morning - Cape Cod radio is coming in unusually loud and clear north of Boston. WATD was getting bumped by a station playing Classical music at 95.9. Interference from WRIU at 90.3.

Haven't picked up NYC, Philly, Baltimore, DC, Richmond, GA, or Florida stations yet.. but on a hot day like today - it's something to listen for: it's Tropo time !

94.3 (NPR on the Cape) coming in on North Shore. So was WXTK 95.1, last night...
WEEI-FM 103.7 VERY strong last night (Jorge Sedano was on with his regular caller
"Cowboy from Windsor"--guy just starts rattling off "on this day in history", sports
opinions, trivia, etc., as they play background music (used to be "Rhinestone Cowboy"
but I think it was "You Make me Feel Like Dancing") and various drops (finishing off
with Bob Barker: "Remember to have your pet spayed and neutered" and Brian from
Family Guy: "I think I made my point...eloquent..."). Anyway that was coming in
very well up in Beverly.

With tropo in full swing, the 95.9 Signpost heard was WCRI on Block Island. They duke it out with WATD from time to time.

(oops, correction; right cartoon voice--Seth MacFarlane, wrong character..."I think I made my point...
eloquent" was his Stan Smith char from American Dad). Carry on.

2 Nights ago, I lost Mike FM near Brockton, dont know what the signal was that caused the tropo interference. Remeber back in the 60s when WGBH -TV would not sign on until 4pm, you got a tremedous amount of stations on Ch.2 and Ch.3 in the summer from the tropo from south and midwest. . The days of rabiit ears instead of Cable-TV.

WBOQ was quite weak tonight ... I was wondering if they were running reduced power. This might explain the weak signal.

I miss the days of TVDXing. Cable TV put the damper on that. And when we go digital in a couple of years, it will end completely. :'(
