TROUBLE AT KLUV?

Jody Dean's first day on the air at KLUV was to be June 27. Now, though, I'm hearing rumors that the whole deal might blow up. Rather than a disagreement over money, which is what you might think could scuttle the deal, I hear it has to do with personnel. Developing.

How do you know HR is the problem?

Not saying that Dean is, but he certainly has a history of being difficult to say the least.

Shadows haven't even lengthened on the day and already there's trouble in the camp. Whether the problem lies with HR, JD, or whoever/whatever look for some sort of upheaval, lots of bickering, and a general brou-ha-ha involving the suits and the lesser beings of the station. Film at 11.

You may have noticed that Infinity has never removed the job listing for "KLUV Morning Show host" from its Web site. And yes, the site HAS been updated recently because they added a writer position for another station just this week.

Because of the first post saying it had to with personnel. There were many folks I wanted to hire and everything was in place and someone in HR put their stupid nose into everything and screwed it up...once we were going to hire a very talented person and 10 years before he had worked for an offshoot of another division and we couldn't hire him because he was a teenager then and didn't give two weeks notice...

With A new PD on the way, wouldn't you say HE wanted to put his input on things in regards who is on the air and who stays? I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he may have said Jody was temporary in the mornings and eventually he will succeeed Brinkman in the afternoons and a New guy from out of town of course will do mornings. Far fetched maybe, but don't be surprised.

So what's this all about? Things aren't going well for Jody and he runs to hid friends at D Magazine in hopes of getting sympathy? AGAIN????

Not so farfetched, Ed, more certainly not surprising given events that transpire in this wholly predictable and logical business of radio. Should your entirely possible conjecture come to pass, what does the scenario say about a PD's actions once he's actually in town and in place, if he would want to begin calling the shots before he's even cleared the door for his first time. All manner of things happening is possible.

Not certain how your specific problem with HR relates to whatever might or might not be happening at KLUV.

Besides, do you think HR leaked that story to "D" magazine?

Maybe, but I doubt it. Most HR people are not media savvy even if they had some motive.

Who wrote the first-person account of his sordid past in "D" magazine?

Who would be most likely to go to "D" magazine if there was a problem?

A Case of Broken Promises - Infinity Local Management In Complete Disarray!

Nuzguy, you and Mr. Murrow are probably hot on the trail of what's really going on behind the scenes as regards the new PD and his "vision" of the new KLUV. Perhaps Jody is not what the new guy had in mind. Maybe the new PD would love to be rid of the entire Chapman legacy, along with all the disciples.

However, as posted about a week ago in a different thread (which Jody apparently only today discovered) certain promises made by David Henry regarding morning show support staff have been reneged upon. Speculation flying about says maybe Henry never had the authority to make those promises in the first place. Perhaps that's why Henry is now awaiting sentencing over at Carpenter. But consider this for a moment: Remember how big of a deal was it that Jody was taking over for Ron? How much BIGGER of a deal would it be if they BOTH left the building for the last time on June 24th? Wow! Just remember, you heard it here first...

What's that old saying about "never giving up your day job?!?!"

It's been a really bad press week for Infinity. It would be stupid to just totally distant themselves from Chapman all together. Check out KLUV's ratings before Chapman moved over from KVIL. It was an impressive jump in shares once he got there. If this falls through, and Jody is indeed out before he ever got started, then KLUV and the rest of the folks at Infinity better get ready for a boatload of negative press and backlash, because they have been hyping this thing up now for the past couple of months. I cannot believe they would shoot themselves in the foot like that, but Infinity already has New York and Chicago listeners on the war path, why not add Dallas-Fort Worth to the list. <P ID="signature">______________

THE SCHEME IN TO BLOW UP KLUV

Sounds like a pretext in the making to just blow up KLUV. Maybe a conversion to (ready for this?) JILL - wide listed soft ac/gold...a complement to JACK. The trick is threading the needle to not hurt KVIL or take too much 25-54. KJ'sKK.

Until this season, CBS was percieved as the gray network. Skewed older than anyone. That was reversed! I think that TV mindset on demos has spilled into radio, thus the elimination of all these oldies stations. It doesnt work that way in this medium.

KLUV

More than all the drama, the fact that they're ranked #16 25-54 adults should be more troubling. They should be grateful JACK already moved into town (not saying they wouldn't do some other format, now that Chapman left).

Call him Captain?

The formerly sad Bengals fan, now a Happy Cowboy fan, apparently is telling the folks in the 'nati, he is the new Infinity FORMAT Captain for Oldies.

Why would they move him, annoint him the national leader of the format and then blow up the mothership?

I guess stranger things have happened. I'm musing though, if he is the Captain, who will get to be his cabin boy?
