TROUBLE BREWING AT KSPN?

Word is they just cleared $3M mark in season revenue on an estimated $9M rights fee for Lakers games which doesn't include another couple million for broadcast costs. Coupled with rough start out of the gate on production, doesn't sound like promising start for multi-year deal...

great point, Im sure ESPN will collapse any week now.
You are kidding right. ESPN has built these losses in from the start. Its not a revenue maker. Its a loss leader.
ESPN owns the lakers in L.A. Its always been about that. Right next to LA LIVE, also an ESPN venture.
Right down the street from USC, another ESPN 710 owned property. Synergy deal, from the start.

I don't think ESPN Radio in LA is anywhere. They're planning to launch a new website for ESPN in LA and I don't think ESPN would sign to get the broadcast rights of the Lakers without knowing if they could afford it...

Heh heh about two hours ago I got a call from an adv rep for a company specializing in online advertising. He was pitching for me to get my clients involved in doing ads on the LA edition of ESPN.com. (He wasn't with ESPN he was with a company named AdMax Media) I referred him to ..... well I won't say, but he asked my name and I told him I was Dick Whitman. [I'm sure a few here will understand that ;) ]

KSPN continues to grow, with a current PPM ranking 1.7 12+, leaving CC's KLAC in the dust. KSPN is actually a bright spot on the radar, they are here to stay!

Everyone knew KSPN waaaay overpaid for the Laker's rights. They knew it wasn't going to make money, but they couldn't afford to let KLAC keep the rights. The overall station ratings have benefited big time (though KLAC's "Fox Sports Radio" twist helped as well).
