TROY CITY RADIO

That has to be one of the worst web sites I've ever seen.

They started off a little rocky but seem to be going strong now! certainly worth checking out!

The home page doesn't even point to the right place. Then after you figure things out it takes you to a a player on live365.com. Why would it be Troy City radio anyway when Troy is in New York and this is based out of Fall River? Wacky.

Not wacky at all.

The original name of the city that is now Fall River was TROY CITY.

From Wikipedia:

"At the time of the establishment of the Plymouth Colony in 1620, the area what would one day become Troy City was inhabited by the Pokanoket Wampanoag tribe, headquartered at Mount Hope in what is now Bristol, Rhode Island. The "falling" river that the name Fall River refers to is the Quequechan River which flows through the city, dropping steeply into the bay. Quequechan is a Wampanoag word believed to mean "Falling River" or "Leaping/Falling Waters."

When I was a kid living there my grandfather hadn't accepted the name change (as many so refused) and still called the city "Troy".

The OP does not have the correct homepage. They have updated the site a few times to try to keep things fresh and modern. Along with ease of access for the listeners. I think they have gone through quite a few hosting sites before they decided on this one to be permanent. The homepage is www.troycityradio.net

If Fall River hasn't been called Troy City in 400 years I don't get why the site calls it Troy City now! Maybe it's to soon for them to accept the new name. Maybe in 400 more years they'll actually call it Fall River. ;-)

The "station" is located in a house behind the former China Garden restaurant off North Main Street near President Avenue (I forget what the chinese place is called now...but the restaurant I speak of is across the street from Auto Zone/Family Dollar/Rite Aid shopping center). The home where this "station" is located is on a street one block up the hill behind the chinese take out place...a blue house I believe.

I don't mind the fact that someone has started up an internet station such as this. I think it's awesome that people start there own stations especially when they serve a niche audience. I ran one from 2000-2005 and intend on starting it again in the future.

Now for the "however". Troy City Radio is doing some shady things such as the alleged (I haven't heard it for myself) illegal FM transmitter on 103.1. I also tuned into the stream for a half hour to see what they are doing. It's live and local which is great, but they stole audio from other sources without permission to use in their own sweepers. For example, they took a RealWorld jingle that was used on Fun 107 in 1998 as a sweep-starter that originally had Brian James saying to get ready for another hit music marathon with the jingle "Fun 107, The South Coast's #1". For Troy City Radio, they left the beginning part with the now deceased Brian James, placed a voiceover saying Troy City Radio and then went back into the jingle saying "The South Coast's #1".

Be original, do things legally and I will have more respect for you.

If you want to listen to the new 103.3 CHR in Boston while in Fall River..best of luck..Troy City Radio, on the pirate transmitter, makes it impossible to listen to..they try to be a talk station in the daytime and then run AOR at night..not sure what they're trying to prove..

They are proving nothing but running a station illegally. Perhaps CBS in Boston should be made aware that an illegal radio station is broadcasting next to their frequency in an area where they could have an audience. Well, on the other hand, what good would that do, because complaints to the FCC about pirate radio in this area seem to be ignored.

They will if a complaint is filed. They've taken a number of them down due to interference complaints.
However theyre like cockroaches, you kill one, another appears.

The 103.1 in Fall River is known to CBS Radio in Boston too.

Y'all have me chuckling about the TV (yes, TELEVISION) pirate I helped take down in Fall River in about 1977.

Guy had built his own tunable jammer expressly to wipe out whatever his neighbor was watching. Unfortunately he also built an all-copper yagi on the roof of a three-decker and was running about 100 Watts ERP that took out a big chunk of Fall River and Somerset across the river. He'd learned all his technology from tinkering with CB radios. Makes one wonder what he would have done had he been able to build a camera!

I usually do NOT respond to any comments made, however, say what you want it is a free country and we ALL have the rite to speak freely. I have a couple of things I want to say.#1 We are and always will be a 100% "internet station"ONLY!! We cannot help if someone owning a transmitter has our station playing through that transmitter. #2 ALL of the production heard on TCR is produced in house with no out side sweepers pr "stolen" sweepers or drops. We actually pay a decent amount of money for our music, music beds, and any other sound bites the listeners may hear. #3 With my years of experience in radio, I respect all aspects of the business. I wish 103.3 AMP Radio lots of success. TCR is strictly local and not trying to be anything we are not. #4 About 3 years ago we took a poll on the streets of Fall River, asking the people what name they liked, and 86% out of 100 peopled polled said Troy City Radio. That is how we got our name. Thank you for raising those questionable concerns. We are in NO WAY Shaddy about how we work. I do know there are some out there that hate us, but there are more out there that like us.. and yes some even love us, with that said, TCR causes no trouble, and wants no trouble. We just want to play music that our listeners love, and sometimes get we get on the mic and stupid and crazy. The only reason for this .... is because its FUN. By the way we have not used live 365 in over a year. Thanks for listening.

WOW... the other choice you gave them must have been absolutely horrible. lol

Troy City - I'm not sure Bernie Sullivan (either the print guy or the radio guy - two different people who often get confused with each other) used that term during their days. As a former resident of "The Riv" and graduate of Durfee HS, it is an interesting tribute to the history of Fall River I suppose. As long as you're not the one doing the illegal thing, give 'em hell and have fun doing it.

Just a thought: since you're using a piece of history in your name - how about :30 or :60 segments highlighting historic moments in Troy City/Fall River history? I know it might sound silly, but it could have some appeal...

That actually sounds like a GREAT idea!! We will have to look more into that!
