Truckin' Tom Kent's overnight reruns on 3WS

OK, I praised 3WS' decision to pick up Truckin' Tom Kent's entertaining show for overnights. But now it's apparent that the same handful of shows are running over and over. Tonight (Feb. 3), the current hour included a spot for Michael McDonald's Christmas CD.

I'm also hearing the same request calls and bits. Could be that he's repeating things, but it's more likely they have their hands on a limited number of shows and are just re-running them. Anybody know what's up?

It's Clear Channel, need I say more....ok I will, CC thinks nobody (the dedicated 3WS audience) is intelligent enough to "catch on" that they are re-running a handful of shows, and they probably got those truckin' Tom shows on barter and they are milking it for long as they can without paying 2 cents for it.

Okay, that's my 2 cents worth

Maybe Truckin' Tom is on vacation.

Or maybe this is why terrestrial radio is in the process of slowly getting its a** handed to it on a platter.

The sad part is that a local oldies station where I live now carries Tom Kent from 7 PM to midnight and does a better job than the local live and voice tracked DJs. Wonder how long until 3WS starts doing the same thing?

Or worse yet, will they go all sat fed all the time?

Just my 2 1/2 cents.

Why shouldn't they go satellite feed all the time? When they are "live and local" the DJs are kept so muzzled that they might as well be canned hams. 3WS was on at my office for most of Thursday and Friday. For all the personality the DJs displayed, it might as well have been coming off of a satelite. For that matter, I could have loaded a few K-Tel oldies compilation CD's into a changer and hit "random play". It would have been just as entertaining.

Once again, you're dealing in cliches rather than reality. The 3WS morning show is heavy on phone participation and banter among the two and a half hosts.

Sheri Van Dyke's midday show has a degree of personality within a music-intensive format and there's plenty of room for Mike Frazer to stretch out on the PM drive shift, too.

And for all your trite conclusions about satellite programming, Tom Kent's show abounds in personality with phone interaction, comedy bits, drop-ins and a healthy dose of "lost" oldies that aren't on most playlists.

It appears that some people are easily amused.

That's the best disinformation I've read in a while. Do you work for the Pittsburgh cluster? If so, my kudos to whichever management type wrote the talking points memo you used for your post. I look forward to similar spin on the fall book, especially since it included the December Christmas music, which is supposed to pop like a cork.
