Trucks on the Hutch (illegally)

Every other week I hear Tom or Craig on 880 report a truck that somehow found its way onto the Hutchinson River Parkway or one of the other LI or Westchester parkways that are supposed to be off limits to commercial traffic (don't they have low bridges per Robert Moses' demands?).

My question is... how could those truckers be so absent-minded? Could they be that lost? ::)

P.S. Because I hear these truckers' goofups on the *radio*, I consider the topic radio-related. ;D

I always used to laugh when I heard this. Often times they'd say the truck "wandered" on to whichever Parkway it ended up. Don't they read the ginormous signs "TRUCKS...USE EXPWYs NOT PKWYs!!" They were probably on their cell phones.

I thought on the Westchester parkways, they have those flashing signs that go off when a vehicle is above height, telling the vehicle that they must get off!

I used to love what they did on the Hutch in the 70's going northbound before Lehman high, where one sign for East Tremont avenue had chains dangling down to give a warning to truckers to get off.

Ever notice when there is a detour they always tell you to take this or that parkway to get around it but never give any route options for the truckers?
