Trudy Haynes, KYW-TV First Black TV Reporter Dies at 95

Former KYW-TV reporter Trudy Haynes was part of the KYW Eyewitness news team from 1965 to 1999.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The CBS3 family has lost one of our own. Former Eyewitness News reporter Trudy Haynes has died. She was 95 years old. She was beloved by all of us. Trudy was a trailblazer in the journalism industry and a longtime fixture at CBS3, where she worked for more than 30 years.

Haynes transformed the face of the news industry when she became Philadelphia’s first Black TV reporter. Now, we celebrate her life and all that she meant to us and the legacy she leaves behind.

Trudy was part of "my family" for many years growing up, along with Vince, Mort, Al, Bill (Kuster), (and as my mother would say...) and Jessie. It's really funny, growing up in the late 60s' early 70s' I was too young to realize that I was watching history being made. I thought Trudy was a just another reporter like everyone else. I guess you do not realize at that age they are backstories to these people's lives. We would welcome these people into our house each night and trust them to give us the news, weather, sports, an maybe a joke or two. It was also fun to see Bill Kuster working in his garden, and waiting for the "Kuster Kid" to appear.

Thank you Trudy (and everyone else of that era) for providing me with memories I will never forget. 📺
