True oldies 790 playlist all over the place

Yesterday, Friday afternoon Bruce was playing a Pink Floyed cut from '75.What makes this odd is B101 does'nt even really get into Pink Floyed with the exception of "Money" and maybe"Another Brick in the Wall".I do not know the name of the song but HJY plays it all the time.I notice when Bruce is on there are songs that are no where near close to the national playlist. The other day everyone was writing about the amount of 80's songs that where showing up in Bruce's shift.Again Scott Shannon's playlist has no 80's in it and Bruce would probably want to get a root canal than play 80's on an oldies station. When he is on it sounds like the Pike's play list at times.
Any one have any idea's what the deal is?

WPRV does have alot more energy and I hate to admit it but it does sound better than the Bee at the moment. No dis respect for my friends who work there.

Why shouldnt he play 1980s songs? After all 1989 is 19 years ago, and 1980 is 28 years ago.

I would suggest, since B101 in 1990 was playing songs from 1960 -1970 and calling them oldies (1990 - 1960 = 30) and (1990 - 1970 = 20) then the 1980s are oldies from the persepctive of this first decade of the 21st Century!

Jazzy!

80's may be oldies... but nobody wants to admit it. Especially those people who grew up in the 80's! But your math is correct. Even I have to admit it. Damn... I was here earlier in the week saying that 80's arn't oldies.... but now I just changed my tune. See what you made me do? :-\

Also, those who play the music on the radio aren't as aware of the passing of time when it comes to songs that test well enough to never stop being played. An 80s song that's still being played on an AC station is never going to sound old to the jock who plays it. In one respect Kenny is correct in that the True Oldies format does boast about not playing 80s music.

So it appears we now have 3 different threads about this True Oldies Channel playing 80s music. My god, who cares!?!?!?!

I understand that this is a board designed to discuss Providence radio - and the playlist of True Oldies certainly qualifies, but do we really need to start a new discussion everytime they play "Jack & Dianne"? We seem to go thru this everytime B101 plays something someone disagrees with as well.

Here's how it works - Clear Channel and Citadel both pay zillions of dollars to research the music for the demo they want to target with their stations. They then play those songs on the air. If they're playing it, it obviously works. So leave it alone!

And I'm spent!

Threads tend to get buried if a topic is not talked about for awhile so a new thread is started so that we don't have to waive through 500 posts to read the latest one.aka the whjj wins wpro loses thread that has been running for 2 years now.Ridiculous, I say. A thread should only have "X" amount of replies before it is closed.like around 50 or 100.

The reason WPRV keeps getting talked about is it is A"True Oldies" affiliate operated by ABC/Citadel and sells itself as only 50's 60's and 70's music without the 80's.WPRV owned by the same company that operates the "True oldies channel" that does all this "research" in your words hypocrite's itself by playing songs on the local level that clearly does not belong or even played on the national feed.
I worked with Bruce and I know he probably wants to cringe when he has to back sell an 80's or clearly a rocker that does not fit on WPRV.
Yes, in my mind it seems 790 is just there for the trail to operate and make some coffee money from.(Well that what it seems to me).The Saturday morning talk shows,Imus, Yankees etc.More than likely Patriot's in the fall.
Bruce is good but does not do the same thing as Scott Shannon.I'm sure Bruce on "True Oldies 790" is Citadel just letting Bruce have some fun while sticking it to CC at the same time.I can almost guarantee Bruce is not making much at this at all.

Who's to say PRO-AM doesn't take the Patriots? Its not like they have a whole lot of interesting shows on sunday afternoon, looking at sunday schedule, its pretty boring...

12-1 Positive Living
1-2 Dr Dean Edell(Pre recorded I assume)
2-4 Money Pit(doubt this is live)
4-6 The Dolans(Could be live, I don't know)
6-7 Radio broadcast of Meet the Press(Not live)
7-10 More Dr Dean
10-1 Billy "I love nicknames" Cunningham

Perfect opp for 630 to boost some ratings.

And they already have a history of the Pats on 790....wouldn't surprised if they revive the 790/99.7 simulcast for those days for better coverage throughout the state
