True Oldies 790

Ok, So during my absence nothing really big happened in Providence radio with the exeption of Charlie Jeffords leaving Lite.

One rumor I did hear is that WPRV may dump the True Oldies format.I cant believe they would do this considering the station is finally getting ratings.
Can anyone shine a light on this and will they be the NY Yankees affiliate this year again.

Dump the format for what and what kind of demos do you think they're getting? Oh and welcome back. I thought you eloped with Skynet.

Kenny-

Where in the WORLD did you pick up this rumor ?
It makes no sense. They hung on to sports-talk 790 for nearly 10 years without much ratings success..only to dump True Oldies in less than a year just when it's starting to get some footing in the ratings..and with a much smaller payroll than its predecessor ?

I listen frequently and enjoy 790, despite its typical AM weaknesses. I just wish Citadel would wise up, dump Hot 106 and put the show on an FM frequency where it would likely build a much bigger audience.

My point exactly.I just heard it and it does not make any sense.

They use the station for local sports,Yankees and a block on Saturday mornings is sold for talk shows.

The only thing I see is maybe more paid local "talk" programming on weekends.local sports,More Yankees and maybe a "Classic Car Show" hosted by Bruce Palmer.

Dump Imus and put a live morning show on. Treat middays and nites like a throwaway like the rest of the market does and leave Scott Shannon on. And put them on Hot's frequency. I think this market can do without a hip hop station.

I know the economy is in really tough shape, the radio industry being no exception, but the last thing this market needs is another embarassment like 1320 WARL.

One is more than enough. :D

I'd put the WEAN calls back on 790, and WPRV on 99.7. Better ID'ing the 99.7 simulcast with WPRO.
