True Oldies Channel

Interesting... this seems to be taking a direct feed off of Scott Shannon's satellite channel. Check out trueoldieschannel.com. Wonder if this is temporary and they will replace with a localized version.

So what happened with Bill Gamble? Will Q101 or The Loop rock harder?

Wow, a good move in radio.

It`s not too bad, but still ABC`s doing oldies
on the cheap. All syndicated programming from
Scott Shannon`s True Oldies Channel, with no
local input `til maybe the end of the year
with local AM and PM-drive shows. This is still
a far cry from all the crazy scenarios predicting
the original WLS-AM jingles and legendary
local airstaff. It almost seems like a holding
action until ABC decides what it wants to do
with its` radio properties?

A very good point. According to AllAccess, IGER says he'll have a decision on the possible sale of ABC radio soon. The format flip does wipe a clean slate without lingering major air personality contracts. It lets go Bill Gamble and his high salary too.

I'm thinking that Iger might hold off on the sale of ABC Radio for six months to a year. In that time period, WZZN may start to bill nicely-- increasing that station's value.

Sorry to those who lost their job today. Having gone through a somewhat similar situation before, I really do feel your pain. Here's to bouncing back on your feet.

NO BRAINER: WLS-FM! (Was Re: True Oldies Channel)

This is the smartest move for Chicago radio. The coup d'grace?.... switch the call-letters to WLS-FM! I sure hope they stream! Way to go, 94.7!

I have to say, in all honesty. Granted I loved the Zone, but business wise, ABC just made a KILLER MOVE! RLL is no competition for them. Now the key is to buy out Dick Biondi's contract, and bring him in!

I like that idea too... the calls would certainly stick with the oldies demographic, I think. It would be nice to see them pick up Dick Biondi too, but I don't see it happening. As has been pointed out elsewhere, ABC's radio properties are up for grabs, so there may not be any further changes for a while. It'd be nice to see "WLS" associated with music again! "Music radiooooo...."

"94.7, Chicago's True Oldies Channel" Doesn't exactly roll right off the tongue. I would've made it local, as Musicradio 94.7 WLS-FM.

Re: NO BRAINER: WLS-FM! (Was Re: True Oldies Channel)

One problem should they decide to make 94.7 WLS-FM...."WLS" is now their talk brand and if someone writes "WLS" in a diary there's a problem as to which station gets the credit. I know its all in the building, but it could be an issue.<P ID="signature">______________

Biondi would be great! However, it probably won't happen for the reasons stated above.
