True oldies in Houston?

A "true oldies" format has popped up in Atlanta; a format that goes back to the 50s-60s golden oldies format. Does anyone think a "true oldies" format would work in Houston? AM or FM?

While I've always thought a real oldies format belonged in Houston, common sense tells me if there was enough money to be made with the format, KLDE would still exist and not "K-Hits".

I don't see the "True Oldies" format coming here, at least while KHTC still has 60's music as part of its playlist. Eventually, though, the 60's tunes will be dropped and be replaced by the 80's. Similar stations in other markets have already started to do that.

Which brings up an interesting point: Eventually the playlists of KHTC and sibling KHPT are going to collide, and one of the stations will need to change format. Wonder how far off that is?

Have you given any thought to what the demographics of that audience might be? If you were 16 in 1955 you are how old now? 16 in 1965? Pretty old demo, can be sold but would require sellers and not order takers, not sure there are many of those left.

I've thought about doing an oldies show for about 2-3 hours on Saturday afternoons on the internet station that I'm the program director of. So far it is up in the air.

I do a mixshow on Friday nights from 8pm (central) - ??? which I mix more 70's-today's club music. If anyone is interested in visiting our station office on a Friday night, hit me up at [email protected]
