True Oldies KZLS-FM 99.7

That's great...if you want to hear a song by the Everly Brothers followed by a Zeppelin tune.

The strangest segue I heard on True Oldies was Shelly Fabares "Johnny Angel" with a quick liner and then Rare Earth's "Get Ready". ;D Scott Shannon is fearless. I wonder if they'll take a nibble out of KOMA-FM.

Aw, that seque was nothing... This morning on KRVT I went from CB's "Johnny B. Good" to Joe Tex's "I Gotcha". Of course of you're doing it live, you can buffer the audio whiplash to some extent.

I look forward to getting far enough west to listen to the new KZLS. (BTW, is that the same station that Lacy, et al put on the air years ago up around Enid?)

As I recall, Lacy's Enid operation was KXLS and that was in 1981. And it was on this same freq.

It's crappy in a lot of the eastern parts of the city Billy. There's some activity it seems to try to move off the sucky tower site they currently are on. It seems at first they were trying to move it to Mustang and now it's looking like near El Reno. http://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/prod/cdbs/pubacc/prod/app_list.pl?Facility_id=37123 Considering the lay of the land, I'd take Mustang any day. Really the newest revision sort of sucks.

There's a 500ft stick located northeast of El Reno at NW 122nd & Manning Rd. which is where they're moving to.

I now know exactly where the tower is. I have family in that area and after we celebrated Christmas, I went for a drive.

I had pulled up the link to the FCC application and noted the long/lat coordinates, the tower height, and the xmitter power.

The tower is located on the west side of Manning Road halfway between Memorial Road and NW 150th. Manning is 7 miles west of Hwy 4 (Piedmont Rd.) and 5 miles east of Hwy 81 which runs north from El Reno. It's painted and lit according to FAA regs and is 500 feet high. It's easily visible (to the south) from NW Hwy as you drive by the Banner Road area.

For me, this would partially explain the spotty-to-poor coverage I get around certain parts of OKC. I would think though, that even running the 45 to 50kW it's putting out at that height, the coverage would be better. Even from my home just south of Lake Hefner, it ain't the best. So, I'm wondering if the signal may be somewhat directional along a north/south line perhaps in order to get into the Enid area.

Their current tower they are on in the Tuttle area has a lot of crap on it near the antenna. Also the thing is simply not very high compared to the surrounding ground elevation. That's some of the biggest reasons it doesn't work. Also, the sound quality suffers from to my mp3 compression for some reason.

So is it to be assumed the tower location in the application amendment NE of El Reno is the location to where they will be moving to sometime after the approval of the app?

One puzzing item: while driving by the stick on Manning Rd I was tuning back and forth from 99.5 and 99.9 and I could clearly hear the signal on both whereas from the city it's not possible. I wouldn't think that a poor location near Tuttle would allow that to be possible.

It's all about terrain. There might not be much blocking the signal that direction. Also, with all the other junk on the tower, it is possible quite a bit more is headed that way too.
