"True Oldies" sounding better by the dAY

I PICK UP sCOTT SHANNON''S "TRUE OLDIES" ON 850 AM from Conn. and it's great, 50s, 60s and some 70s; if this hits NY, AM or FM, it'll be another 'worst to first" for the man; Oldies will remain big, don't look to the ipod generation, they have no use for radio, no matter how much you lick their butt. True Oldies Rules!

"True Oldies"

Does anybody out there know if Shannon streams "True Oldies Channel" live on his website?

Not right now but I heard a rumor that they were working on it. Whether that actually happens is another story.

No way!

Mr. L, I enjoy your posts but no way would this be #1 in Gotham. I can't see 106.7 WLTW losing the title to "TRUE OLDIES". If they put this on the AM dial it would just make the top 20 at best. The NYC radio dial is littered with ABC channels for promotional reasons (see ESPN RADIO & RADIO DISNEY). It looks good in the trades.

Thanks for the time and courtesy.

thanks for the stream, great stuff; without quoting actual numbers, how is this doing in conn.,good, bad, or in the middle?

live stream

thanks a lot- wish it was a full-time 24/7 station (looks like they have a great signal)

Looks like they are improving in the Danbury market, and are breaking into the top-10.

The market is only surveyed twice a year (spring & fall), and I don't know when the format changed to True Oldies, but their Spring '05 rating is nearly double their Fall '04 rating, and more than double their Spring '04 rating.

(They actually beat out the mighty WEBE 108 in the latest survey)

Shannon sounds tired today

I'm listening to their stream as I'm posting. SCOTT SHANNON sounds tired today on the air. Is he doing too much? Is he live or tracked?

BINGO!and it will work as astonishingly everywhere else it's tried! Shannon is STILL the man!

no such luck

tried the stream off the Danbury CT station website and couldn't get it to work.
Said I needed a Real Player update- went & got it, loaded up fine, still no audio.

Another station streaming it out there?

Is Shannon the only dj?

I was having problems with their audio Thursday afternoon. I'm getting the stream fine now (Thursday 11pm).

Is SCOTT SHANNON the only jock? When is he live on the air? I guess the rest of the day it's voice-tracked.

I think it's safe to say that it is entirely Voice Tracked. With his duties at WPLJ I find it mighty difficult that he could do M-F 6 to 10am, be PD there as well, and do a "Live" shift on ABC's True Oldies Channel ALL IN ONE DAY. This isn't confirmed but makes complete sense.

Edison Research on True Oldies

Edison Research Website has a nice piece on the TRUE OLDIES CHANNEL. Go to their site and type in True Oldies Channel, 4th thread.

WREF Danbury CT ratings

From what I understand, their 25-54 adult number isn't close to the top 10 (which is no surprise, considering their music era mix). But tied for(even a distant) #10 for an AM daytimer on satellite ain't so shabby.

I was listening to the stream around noon yesterday. It could have been live. His voice was not at it's best. Yes, it could be 100% voice-tracked. They could just use different "voice cuts" from different days.

Some folks have stated on radio boards that TOM CUDDY handles most of the programming duties. Could Shannon do his WPLJ shift and do two hours live on TRUE OLDIES? Possible. But it's not good for your health.

It could also be another "Pirate" or Mojo" for the man!

What is their cume on WREF? After a major promotional blitz in the trades, how many affiliates have picked up the format?

Very True!!

I was under the impression that Shannon handled the programming, not Cuddy...but I could certainly be mistaken. And toooo much radio work could not only do a number on your "health" but also your "voice" too!!

All in all a nice "mix" of "OLDIES" to listen to on the AM Band!! As I previously said, give people a reason to listen to AM and they WILL!!

It literally sounds like the WMTR/WWTR format in North & Central Jersey minus the 70's tunes of course! And based on their last book it seems to be a winning formula. Check out their Morristown, NJ numbers. I believe I even seen them show up in the NYC Arbs too!
