True Talk 830 WCRN

It seems like Carter can never hold onto a format on this station, WCRN, for too long. How long was the oldies format on? Where did Frank Foley and that other guy Paul go? Are they going to end up on some college station in the morning? HAHA

Frank Foley is reportedly still working at the station although not in an on air capacity. Paul Healey is part of the Peter Blute morning show along with Mike Roberts on news. As far as the formats, "Swing 830" had an audience but they couldn't sell it to advertisers; "True Oldies 830" did better with advertisers but there was no audience; the jury is obviously still out on "True Talk 830". IMO, their talk format has a good chance to be a success in the ratings and with the advertisers. I'm already hearing ads from businesses that did not touch the station under the previous formats. The mix of talk shows should make them a player in the talk radio "wars". I have already heard callers from areas of MetroWest on the Howie Carr show remarking that it was great to have him on WCRN with a strong signal.I do wonder why they carry the syndicated Doug Stephan show in the morning without any local cut-ins for news and weather from 5 to 7 a.m. With people commuting earlier than ever to work, you would think they would have local news earlier than the current 7 a.m. start. If you want news, weather and traffic reports and start the day listening to another station, what are the chances that you will switch your dial at 7 a.m. for the Peter Blute show?

Is Doug Stephan still talking about divorce? Seems that was all he would talk about when he was in the Boston market a few years ago.

I've always found Doug Stephan's show to be likeable, but not necessarily compelling. This morning, I heard him doing his daily famous persons birthday bit, along with bits of songs that made the person well known. Again, not compelling but pleasant enough to listen to. A bit later he and his crew were talking about Doug Flutie's retirement and that's where they lost me as the "facts" they were relating about Flutie's career displayed a woeful lack of knowledge.I agree with the earlier post that WCRN should take advantage of the local cutaway opportunities to try and keep the Worcester County audience interested enough to hang on for Blute's show.
