Great, more soft rock. In order, the most overdone formats around here are Top 40, Adult Contemporary, Classic Rock, and Country. There's absolutely no diversity on the radio any more. The problem is that we're granting control of all of the AM/FM signals to to few broadcasters, and this is what happens. I'd like to see someone come in and occupy one of the blatant format holes in the area: Alternative or Active Rock, Talk (political/current events), Oldies (not Classic Hits, which is what WJRZ was), Dance, or Smooth Jazz.

Agreed

Program Director of BOTH Stations Jeff Rafter strikes again. Maybe it's time to take a basic 101 class in programming a radio station. Try something that's NEW

So is this new Magic 100.1 WJRZ going to have its own programming or are they going to be a simulcast of Magic 98.3 WMGQ?.....If they end up as a simulcast, I bet that a possible 105.5 WDHA & 95.9 WRAT simulcast could also happen in the future since they pretty much have the same format already and GM only cares about saving money.

Great!

There is such a huge gap for AC in Ocean County!

There's only:
92.7 WOBM
96.9 WFPG
98.3 WMGQ (in the extreme North)
98.7 WWZK (in the extreme South)
99.5 WJBR (in the South & West)
99.7 WBHX
102.7 WWFS (in the extreme North)
101.1 WBEB
106.7 WLTW (in the extreme North)

Nine choices are not enough! We should demand nine more Adult Contemporary stations!

Does Greater Media own any 100.1's outside of New Jersey?
It would sound weird to hear "Magic 98.3 and 100.1" or "MagicFM"
I like 100.1's mix of Christmas music better than 98.3's mix.
100.1 and 92.7 have almost identical coverage areas, 96.9 WFPG covers 100.1's entire listening area and has the biggest signal in NJ in the summer.
There are two obvious format holes on the Jersey shore, but I don't think 100.1 will ever flip to either format.

Hopefully this domain registration is just a smokescreen to fool people like us. But we'll find out on December 26.

Lol, don't forget about WJRZ's two translators on 100.7 and 107.9.

In all seriousness, this puts the nail on the coffin for Monmouth/Ocean radio.  What really started this format clone is Arbirton and their PPM, and followed by the advertisers who use this trash of a system.  Whoever ranked what people listened to must be on the good stuff.  So we all know AC is the #1 format, then Top 40, then Classic Rock, and then "classic hits" which might as well be AC anyway.  The demise of genres include alternative/active rock, dance, hip-hop (not this rhythmic garbage), smooth jazz, and oldies (WIBBAGE-FM for example.)  Another great heritage station down the tube for format clusters.  I wouldn't necessarily say Country as much is cluttering, since 106.7 in Cape May basically hits static on Exit 9, although IMHO, Thunder should've been on 106.3 and have Hit on 98.5 instead.  And about 20 people would recieve WLTW-HD2's country format, but back to my point.  It is time to just let FM be the way it is right now and go to something that will soon IS NOW hitting them where it hurts....Internet Radio my friends.  I heard WDOX has a stream running.  Or, you can try the option on what the people in Newark, Brooklyn, and Boston are doing  ;)

Or start listening to stations below 92.1....I have to say as of late I have been testing many college radio stations and I have to say they play some pretty good stuff.....I am a rock fan and on my recent trip down to Trenton, I was listening to stations like 91.9 WNTI, 88.7 WRSU & 88.5 WXPN for my rock fix......On my way down the shore last year I was listening to 90.5 WBJB & 88.9 WMCX in Monmouth County.....Up here in North Jersey, I find myself listening to 88.7 WPSC quite often since they now air "College Rock" weekdays from 9-6 and Classic Rock on the weekends....There also are stations like 91.5 WNYE who plays alternative rock in the mornings, 90.7 WFUV who can be obscure but sounds good, and 89.5 WSOU for the extreme heavy rock fans (which I am not)...So when I don't have my Sirius-XM with me and I am stuck with AM/FM I now head below the 92.1 mark to get alway from the bland music on commercial radio.

In southern Ocean County, left of the dial radio is mostly rubbish. All we have are Christian stations and NJN, and sometimes Burlington County College's radio station comes in with its dance format. I wish there was something worth supporting, but alas, there is not.

AM radio bites as well. I would be happy if we could receive a decent talk radio station, but that isn't the case either. Just plenty of really bland music and a ton of static. An even bigger wasteland than the FM dial.

I haven't listened much to WJRZ ... at least not in the years since it morphed from Oldies to Classic Hits. Despite that, it would be terribly disappointing if they made a switch to Adult Contemporary, and even more so if they're actually going to simulcast WMGQ. I think we ought to write to Jeff Rafter telling him what we think of this potential switch. Let him know that there are gaping format holes in the area that need to be filled (*hint hint* an alternative rock station, for one), and that we definitely have more than enough options for soft rock on the radio.

Jeff Rafter was NOT the one responsible for the format flip. This decision came down from BOSTON. I will agree that they have no idea of what this market needs. The higher ups care nothing about public service to this community which is evident by the fact that only ONE show is live and all others are voice tracked, and soon the morning show will be a feed from WMGQ. Its a sad day for ocean and monmouth county. Anyone associated with the Oldies 100 name was let go. These people gave their hearts and supported all the events sometimes without pay because they believed in their station and loved what they did. The once large following will disappear and these people will not have music that they have long loved to listen to. REST IN PEACE 100.1 WJRZ.............. The MAGIC is GONE!

As someone mentioned before, can similar cost-cutting measures not be far off when it comes to WMMR, WRAT and WDHA? I mean, all three are basically the same station: heritage rockers that draw heavily on classic rock and new songs mostly from established acts, and they all refuse to play any harder rock music (i.e. Static-X, Slipknot other than their ballads, Marilyn Manson, Pantera, and with some exceptions, even System Of A Down and Korn). I smell a simulcast of Preston & Steve and a rebranding of all three to "The MMR Radio Network". I really hope it doesn't happen, but only time will tell. But given that this is Greater Greedia, we can't be surprised if it does. Ever since they moved into the market, the stations they took over lost their local focus and sounded like they had someone well out of the area calling the shots.

I have to agree that THUNDER is needed on 106.3----so I can listen to it on my clock radio---in midwood brooklyn 11230!!!!! By the way, my 16 yr old daughters new ipod touch gets her mucho country via iheart--but since she hit 16 on 11/17/09 she is following her classmates at Shulamith H.S. and is gravitating a bit towards HIT radio.Country radio via AM or reg FM is not gonna happen for NYC.
