Sam Buca (now known as "The Sam" aka: Trump of Carlisle) pulls off another one with the addition of the 6P WGAL - TV simulcast on WHYL. Great job Buca.

Well, first I'd like to thank my parents for having sex 25 years ago and rather than a wasted puddle of knuckle children, one happy fella made it. Second, I'd like to thank Cumberland Electronics for the sexy yagi antenna...I only cut myself once with it. Third, I'd like to thank Bob Good for the demodulator. Last, but not least, I'd like to thank the amazing sales team at the station for being at 85% of March, 71% of april...and even 56% of december 2009.

Coming soon...DIGITAL STL and more than 8% modulation overnight.
______________

Why not put News8 at noon on 960 (for 30 minutes)? No station in the area provides it, and it might pull in a couple people without TVs in their workplace. The 960 signal crosses the river at noon.

Similarly, 960 carrying News8 at 5 would grab a lot of people driving home (before
the signal goes puny). News8 has the chance to promo ("coming up at 5:30p") and turn knobs to 8 when the driver gets home. Seems like a huge niche market waiting to be taken.

A curious move, at best. Why would you guys add a WGAL simulcast *after* dropping a news-talk format?

Then again, I'm sure I'll listen on those nights I'm in the car (or even if I'm on the exercise bike and not near the TV) so I should shut up.

If you wanted to win, you'd stop bringing a pocketknife to a gunfight, son.

Incorrect. You'd display a pocketknife and have a gun hidden under your shirt. Cheers :)
______________

Well, whatever gun you've been bringing, it's been shooting blanks for some time. Cheers. :)

Smacktalk aside, good get. Channel 8 is a solid outfit.
Edited by thinkingman on 02/02/06 09:45 PM.

Don't worry...the people shooting blanks no longer work for the company.

I just want a date with the cute girl that works over there.
______________

Another Rt. 81 Radio station, in Hazelton, near Wilkes-Barre, is also simulasting TV news. This one however is a lease access cable channel, which mixes is "news" with paid infomercials. This happened after the radio station, WAZL, essentially dumped most of its local progamming and maybe coincidentally some of its salespeople ran out the door and went over to a competing TV station.

Thinkingman, dam, thought you were dead or shipped off to Harrisonburg, VA. Glad to see your alive and well.

See you at the OK Corral stranger.

Hmmmm, what a ****ing cheap thing to do. why in hell would ROute 81's new owner want his hazelton station to be simulcasting a TV signal, other than to run a station on the cheap?

Nice mouth. OK, for those of you who have no clue. Simulcasting the highest rated TV news on your AM in the same market is smart thinking. Many listeners who are unable to be near a TV at that time enjoy being able to keep abreast of what the top rated TV news station is reporting. It is done ALL over America, and works quite well. Its not running on the cheap, its giving listeners what they want.
