Is that fair and proper? Same thing happens with streaming. No disclaimer required.

President Donald Trump and the so-called “Trump of the Tropics” stood side-by-side in the Rose Garden of the White House on Tuesday while POTUS attacked Facebook, Twitter, the press, and “different shows,” saying they should be investigated for collusion against Republicans.

“It seems to be, if it’s conservatives, if Republicans, there is big discrimination,” Trump said of social media platforms. “I see it absolutely on Twitter,” he said, also naming Google and Facebook as offenders.

“There is collusion with respect to that, because something has to be going on,” he insisted to reporters, adding, “I do think we have to get to the bottom of it.”

By his side as Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, who has, like Trump, been criticized for misogynistic and racist remarks. Bolsonaro also is a prolific tweeter. Naturally, he has been called “Trump of the Tropics” since taking office in January – most recently by Trump himself as he welcomed Brazil’s new far-right leader to the White House.

Yet with all the "banning conservatives", Fox News and Breitbart are among Facebook's top publishers. Doesn't occur to people that if no one is commenting on your non-stop political posts, it may just be that your friends are tired of them and unfollowed you.

The president's personal attorney tells NBCU brass that legal proceedings could be pursued if there's no retraction or apology for stating that "Russian oligarchs" co-signed loans to Trump.
President Donald Trump is ratcheting up his war with the media, as if such thing was conceivable. On Wednesday, his personal attorney Charles Harder threatened NBCUniversal with a defamation suit over what was broadcast the previous night on MSNBC's The Last Word With Lawrence O’Donnell. A missive sent to NBCU headquarters, obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, also addresses a related tweet.

According to Harder's demand letter, "The Program and Tweet make the false and defamatory statements that 'Russian oligarchs' co-signed loans provided to Mr. Trump by Deutsche Bank, and described these 'co-signers' as 'Russian billionaires close to Vladimir Putin.'”

Harder is also warning others against republishing the allegedly false statement. (The Hollywood Reporter is doing so because it believes such republication is necessary to convey what is a matter of utmost public concern and protected by the First Amendment in connection with anticipated litigation.)

In a tweet following Harder's letter, O'Donnell wrote, "Last night I made an error in judgment by reporting an item about the president’s finances that didn’t go through our rigorous verification and standards process. I shouldn’t have reported it and I was wrong to discuss it on the air. I will address the issue on my show tonight."

He's not threatening the license (as he did before) but is instead threatening a lawsuit. The problem is that if it went to court, NBC would have access to his taxes and finances for "discovery." He doesn't want that to happen. So it's a paper tiger, and O'Donnell has already issued a retraction. We'll see how he addresses it on his show tonight.

The more Trump brings attention to things like this the worse it is for him. Notice how he never gets mad at Hannity when he lies for the president.

NBCUniversal, as a government licensee and public company, has to be careful what it says and does. Some might say it stifles free speech (as do the calls for O'Donnell's firing or suspension). But it's simply the road one must walk under the circumstances.

Does NBC need a broadcast license or just the affiliates. Do I need to get an FCC license to lease a transponder?

Cable Companies are regulated by the FCC. Although most subscribers would say it is poor oversight. Are the channels themselves regulated. I don't think the FCC can tell a cable provider what channels they can have on their system.

Two years ago, the DOJ threatened to investigate and re-evaluate the Comcast-NBCUniversal merger. That would have been a costly and time consuming thing. The moral is don't piss off the government.

That merger never should have happened. But re-reviewing would have been a mess.

Now MSNBC is named in a lawsuit over Rachael Maddows segment on One America News.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — A conservative television network sued Rachel Maddow for more than $10 million on Monday for calling it “paid Russian propaganda.”

One America News filed the federal defamation suit in San Diego.


The small, family-owned network based in San Diego is challenging Fox News for conservative cable and satellite TV viewers and has received favorable tweets from President Donald Trump.

The lawsuit contends that Maddow’s comment on her July 22 MSNBC show were retaliation after OAN President Charles Herring accused cable television giant Comcast of censorship. The suit contends that Comcast refused to carry the channel because it “counters the liberal politics of Comcast’s own news channel, MSNBC.”

A week after Herring sent an email to a Comcast executive, Maddow opened her MSNBC show by referring to a report in the Daily Beast that said an OAN employee also worked for Sputnik News, which is linked to the Russian government.

“In this case, the most obsequiously pro-Trump right-wing news outlet in America really literally is paid Russian propaganda,” Maddow said on “The Rachel Maddow Show.”

“Their on-air U.S. politics reporter is paid by the Russian government to produce propaganda for that government,” Maddow said.

In the lawsuit, OAN said Kristian Rouz was a freelancer for Sputnik News, not a staff employee, and his work there had nothing to do with his work for OAN.

Yes even though this thread itself is 3 years old but here we go again, The president goes after Comcast's NBC division.

President Donald Trump went after Comcast during a White House meeting on empowering African Americans.

During a meeting in the Cabinet Room with prominent African American media and sports figures, Trump noted that an NBC News reporter had left the room.

“She just left from NBC because it’s owned by Comcast, and they’re the racists,” Trump said, as participants in the meeting clapped.

According to the White House, the meeting guest list included Candace Owens, actor Isaiah Washington, Alveda King, Diamond and Silk, David Harris Jr. and Deneen Borelli, among others.

Comcast had no comment. Trump did not say why he was criticizing Comcast. He has lately attacked MSNBC as “MSDNC,” in addition to his frequent criticisms of the media. At a rally in Las Vegas last week, he called Comcast a “terrible company, terrible people running that company,” before noting that he hosted Celebrity Apprentice for 14 season and “they used to come to my office and kiss my ass.”
