Trussville Gets a Latin Station

They've been doing Spanish since what... November of 06? I guess they took their time in putting together the station the right way.

I find it very odd that this is A) reported in the Montgomery paper and B) set up like they're targeting Trussville specifically. Now there's five Latin oriented stations. How long until an FM jumps on the bandwagon?

I thought that was strange too, about that story being in the Montgomery paper, being so far away and not really relevant to Montgomery listeners.

I'm not really sure, but there may be more Hispanics living up in St. Clair county, and since Trussville is closer to that area, that may be the reasoning behind moving to Trussville.

As far as one of the larger FM's in Birmingham making the switch to spanish, it's not probably going to happen anytime soon. WZGX is the only one of the five spanish stations which even shows up in the ratings books; the other four just "pick up the crumbs". Maybe one of the smaller class A's around Birmingham might try spanish, though.

I can't fathom why WRLM would want to broadcast 24 hours a day, given they're only licensed to use 28 watts at night. That would hardly cover their COL of Irondale, much less Trussville.

i worked there when it was wlph.

if they are using their 28 watts at night they are pushing it hard. i heard it down i 20 this last weekend to the leeds exit (heading east) since it bled in on werc when i passed on the interstate.

if they are moving their studios to trussville what will happen to the physical plant in irondale?

I used to work just up Alton Rd from the station. I'm wondering if they even bothered to go to low power at night, considering I used to hear the station well at night around the airport. Seems the night programming was hit and miss - I'd tune in just to listen to dead air sometimes, with the graveyard of noise in the background. Once I caught a CD skipping in the evening... Hours later after I got off work it was still skipping!

AFAIK the transmitter site will remain in I-run-dale. There's no apps for a move - then again the FCC shows the nighttime power under an application, not a license. Go figure.

The article mentioned running 24/7 -- think it will all be local?

what i heard last weekend (about 2 am) was a sat feed.

i have heard it during the day and it seemed to be local. leeds & moody were mentioned in drops (or was it ads?).

I just want to know how cornflake the destroyer translates into spanish. That is the coolest screen name in English but it might mean a plague of locusts on the AM's being discussed.
