Truth about True oldies 790

I could be wrong here, but I believe there is another station in the market that recently picked up ESPN.

1450 just picked up ESPN.So that's out and WEEI-FM airs FOX Sports Network on off hours. So that's out.
Not sure if WEEI-AM runs FOX or ESPN though.Anyone know?

How about a mirror image of PRO? Left-wing local talk. No shortage of non-profit loonies, millionaire Marxists or
government teat suckers to tell us how taxes in this state are (LOL) "too low".
Kate Brewster, Pat Crowley, David Segal, Matt Jerzyk, Tom Sgouros, Henry Shelton, Elizabeth Burke Bryant, Linda Katz and enough others to turn anyone's stomach.
Seriously, most of them would work for next to nothing as they are committed Stalinists and are either independently wealthy or safely embedded at a no-show job for a non-profit or government agency.

They cut the Score to save money. Now they're going to hire new "talent" that will take away from the pool of guests for the right wing hosts on the sister station to yell at?

I doubt it.

If it's news that the station flips to, it will be flipping BACK to all-news. WEAN was all-news 79WEAN for years. I saw the Providence Journal '79 yearbook which had an ad for WEAN & the year of "79."

They are cutting. Why would they make an all news station? They don't want to pay ASCAP.So why would they go all news since they canned the whole sports staff a year ago.

If it's all-news they go to, it will be the 3d time tried in Providence. 790 had NBC's NIS feed in '79, with local stuff at TOH and BOH.Station segued into talk later. 1110 tried it with CNN Headline News and it too flopped despite winning several awards......

Rumor is there'll be a talk station with all the failed projects. Afternoon drive will be a show hosted by Jim Brinson and Dave Barber called short cuts. Don't tell anyone, it's still in the works.

? Remember on the 1st page, someone suggested all-news among other formats to which Someplacesomewhere said (about one of the formats in the post but didn't specifically say) something like "hmm, then it has been done before." The other ideas were gospel & something else.

Additionally I don't get what you mean by the ASCAP thing, or more specifically why it's where it is in your quote. Where you say "They don't want to pay ASCAP.So why would they go all news..." makes no sense. ASCAP, BMI & SESAC are music. You would go all-news to not pay as hefty a royalty.

As for why would they make it an all-news station? Simple: synergy. An all-news station would be a complimentary service to WPRO/WEAN-FM. 2 stations in Birmingham did this. WJOX & WAPI were a sports N/T 1-2 punch. Would an all-news 790 work now? Who knows. Nobody's confirmed that 790 WILL be going to news. It's not even certain that it will actually be flipping! If it does then there's a 33.3% chance that it will be all-news. Was 790 complimentary to WPRO as sports? Maybe an OK ad buy. I remember reading one of the blogs of one of the WSKO's hosts who said Citadel didn't do anything or not nearly enough for promotion. There have been people who've said to me they miss the Score.

Business Talk?......550 tried that years ago.

True enough...550 DID try Business Talk many moons ago, sometime before its incarnation as 'the buzz'.

However, as the years have passed, it seems Business Talk/News has become more firmly established as a 'niche' format in some markets, the closest examples to us being 1060 WBIX, in the Boston market, and 1130 WBBR in New York.

Such a station could probably get news updates / features / national programming from an outfit like Bloomberg, Fox Business, or elsewhere.

Such a station could also serve as a dumping ground for brokered shows on topics revolving around personal finance, or any other kind of brokered program, thereby offering an alternative 'dollar-a-holler' outlet to 1320 WARL.

Let's see if this guess turns out to be the right one...... ;)

...And wwe have biztalk here in Philly on a daytimer, 860 WWDB.Wondering also if lifestyle talk could be a posibility. We have that on WFYL 1180 down here. This station is right in the middle of a golf course! But it's sad to see oldies go off of AM. But whatever the stuff, it'll be better than 990/1320.....
