Rumour has it...

KTZR Suave 97.1 is flipping to the spanish oldies La Preciosa format today. This is the same format Clear Channel has used in a number of other markets successfully.<P ID="signature">______________

The website confirms the change. I enjoyed 97.1 quesuave more than suave fm.
I hope I'll like La Preciosa. Guess I'll have to listen and see.

After the name change, they played less Mana, Chayanne, Juanes etc , and more things like "gasolina" etc. I enjoyed the earlier incarnation more.

Wow! I'm suprised it took CC this long to do it. There's not a whole lot you can do with that frequency coming out of Green Valley. Que Suave and Suave Fm were like islands in CC family since most all the other Spanish formats were either Preciosa or Mega formats. I'm sure Preciosa will have more success and compete more with Caliente (KCMT)than Suave ever did AND be cheaper to run.

A lot cheaper! It is a 24/7 network out of KPRC-FM in Salinas, CA. No local content at all.

David, surely you know more about this than most of us, but aren't expanding "syndication" operations supposed to have talent in bigger cities than the Monterey-Salinas-Santa Cruz, CA area? I suppose people might be willing to move there for the climate or what not, but why not move the talents to say, LA, where other talents could be found?

Low cost of living. Preciosa has no name talents on it.

No, they are in KPRC-FM in Salinas. They had thought of moving to San Jose, but the cost of living for the staff was too high. On staff member, Pepe reyes, formerly of KOND Fresno, had moved to SJ, but now has to move to the Salinas area.
