I was watching the 10:00 news on my new 56" DLP HD Widescreen TV when they backed the camera off to show Allison, Warner, Brant and the sports guy (forgot his name) sitting at the news desk, far enough away to show the floor's carpet. I thought it was funny, because there was a giant coffee stain (or something else) on the carpet! I don't think I would have noticed this on my old 27" TV, but I definately saw it in beautiful HD quality. I was surprised that they would show this.... they have a nice set, but you would think that they would get that steam cleaned before showing it to thousands and thousands of viewers. I was just wondering if anyone saw this.

Does WMAQ produce their news is HD or are they just up-converting the SD?

-A

I don't know for sure, but I can tell you that the quality goes down from whatever they play at 9:00. They also do not do it in widescreen.

Are you planning on showcasing it? If so, I will gladly climb my roof and point the antenna in a westward direction. I'll record it and send it to CBS 2 to investigate and do a report on.

WMAQ-TV's news is not in HD. However, the SD feed is very clean and does show more detail than its analog counterpart.

I heard a rumor that WLS-TV is gearing up for HD newscasts in the near future. Can anyone confirm that upgrades are being done in the newsroom? There are very few newscasts in HD around the country.

Well WLS will be debuting a new set here shortly. Within the next month or 2. I bet its HD ready.

Wow.. How long did this one last? (Wasn't the previous one there 20+ years?)

IIRC, they started using the current set around the fall of 1998. I would imagine the new street-side set will be completely HD ready. Sister-station KABC-7 just premiered their new set and HD capabilities last week.
