Tulsa Book

I'd say the losers are anyone who doesn't subscribe to Arbitron and who happens to want to see how they did 12+.

Notice a strange abscence of stations who don't subscribe ?

Interesting also how KKCM is listed as Christian CHR (?) on the 12 plus manifest.

Good job KHITS! You don't even need a morning show to win against some people ::) Considering you are live 24/7 and your jocks and PD know the format is a big plus.

you won't be seeing Chris Brown at SXSW anytime soon.

KKCM shouldn't be listed as a Christian CHR. They are AC.
KMOD and KRAV got the shaft this time. I suspect both will be back up in the summer.
KTSO got a kiss which probably will not last. KWEN is the new number one.
KQLL is already trending DOWN. KFAQ took a hit after Michael left.

Best quote of the day: I'd say the losers are anyone who doesn't subscribe to Arbitron and who happens to want to see how they did 12+.

Amen Brother!

I mean this as a slap to the billboard companies...no disrespect to KXOJDJ.

Do you still BELIEVE in BILLBOARDS? Seemed to be a waste of money.

The rotator boards are a scam unless you buy all 3 sides. I would ask for my money back.

Actually billboards are regarded by many as the “last bastion” of advertising that people can not escape exposure to. With more consumers having DVRs & fewer people listening to radio, billboards have a “captive audience” and a larger percentage of overall advertising revenue.

The rotating LCD billboards are even better for some advertisers. This allows advertisers to reach their target audience, similar to radio but with the geographic targeting similar to that of direct mail advertisers & newspapers.

Oh yeah, captive audience...blah blah blah.

Common sense says...nobody put a gun to XOJ's head and made them buy the boards. Smart folk buy billboards that have a unique selling proposition.

Sgeirk - The campaign was "We Believe." It was a well planned and executed marketing plan for 2007.
What is there NOT TO GET? We are telling people about our radio station by selling what we believe in.

We had to totally rebrand our radio station from "The Family Station" to the "We Believe" campaign.
We changed most of our airstaff along the way too. It upsets us when the large radio companies give us advice. We are a DOVE AWARD winning radio station. That says it all.

Do you believe? I certainly hope so!

I agree. Sounds like the folks at the CityPlex are a bit defensive at this point.
I bet it is the bad parking this week because of the PGA.

It's radio...have some fun.

The real problem at KXOJ is an unfocused and stubborn owner. Billboards or no billboards the owner needs to take a real hard look at station and quit trying to be the "high school" football animal with his other property. You all agree?

And Journal Guy. Let's talk about KFAQ. A nice comeback in mornings from the Delgiorno disaster, but 6a - 7p isn't very impressive. KRMG still whips ya.

The latest through the grapevine is that Journal's is letting some peeps go. True or not?

And kxojdj. Use your ears. KTSO sounds pretty darn good, very listen-able, great mix of music, seems to be positioned well with liners, etc. Some of the air talent is still a little iffy, but you don't hear much of 'em. I think they've finally got their act together, so I wouldn't poo-poo this book too much for them.

I don't think Mix's number are an Arbitron wobble. They're going to have to take a solid position, more of a niche format. But, I'm sure their fair-haired Ops Manager has already come up with some creative alibi to submit to Cox corporate.

Sorry to be so late contributing gang, just got back in town. Great to be back again.

Was it me or did dj just flip out at someone giving them a compliment?? Or was that not a compliment?

He was being sarcastic, Junior.

He was ridiculing the notion that someone in Tulsa might not want to bow down and worship at the altar of mainstream corporate radio.

Thanks BTL ;) I must be really young b/c I have no idea what Judge is talking about with the "needs to quit trying to be the 'high school' animal with his other property..." BTL can you explain that one too ;D

To answer your question, there is life after Michael DelGiorno on KFAQ. The station seems to be doing just fine without him.
KVOO continues to be a solid station and Big Country also had a good book. Overall, we are pleased.

Being totally objective, I think the boys at Cox are probably aware that Mix got screwed in this book. It is a very good product and normally hangs near or in the top-5. They have a good product and morning show and they will probably rebound without touching a thing. They could probably be a little more agressive with their currents, but that will not make or break their success. Their other 4 stations looked good too.

KMOD was down, but I think it is closer to reality. That is not a double-digit radio station and if P&B ever leave....it will be a 5 share. I bet KQLL will be back to oldies by the end of the year. Classic top-40 sounds like someone's personal jukebox. It was fun for the first week, now it is just hard to listen to. I thought the Scott Shannon programming that they ran on Sunday sounded awesome. Wish they would bring that back 24/7.

Shamrock got lucky and Renda did well. Overall, Tulsa Radio sounds pretty good right now and I hope that continues.

That is all for now. I am off to the PGA to sweat like a pig.

KXOJ VS KKCM....Using terms "We Believe" and "Family Friendly" are pandering terms pure and simple. Let the Music, Personalities and excellent jingles and imaging should get listeners without being cheesy. Christian AC is family friendly naturally...why say it...why waste time using that when you can create better imaging to grab listeners imagination. "We Believe," is a pandering term...when music listeners care about a Well put together quality sounding radio station...who cares who owns it...the exact faith of the DJ or inside the hall values.
