Tulsa needs a new rock station

After recently driving through Tulsa I realized how terrible the rock radio was there. Tulsa needs a station like KATT in OKC. KMOD is horrible about playing new rock. They only play a few new titles, usually by Nickelback, and way too many classics. Even the imaging of KMOD is terrible. It's time for something new and fresh sounding. I know KMOD's ratings are alright, but that's only because there is nothing else for rock listeners to tune in locally. If KATT was percetable from Tulsa KMOD's ratings would quickly tank outside of the morning slot. Rock is NOT dead. But if you live in Tulsa you might think otherwise. I'm glad I don't have to listen to Tulsa radio regularly.

Sounds like the typical Clear Channel "Rock" formula is being used. I haven't listened to "commode" on the internet lately, but it was fairly listenable when I tuned in about 6 months ago.

"I haven't listened to "commode" on the internet lately."

What's strange is that some of the Cheap Channel rock stations are decent like KBPI in Denver and KIOZ San Diego. KMOD never plays any of the harder rock from bands like Pantera, Mudvayne, Slipknot or Megadeth. I guess they just have a super conservative program director. What's the deal with Clear Channel playing so much Nickelback. They are not a great rock band. I guess the Clear Channel corporation has inked a deal with the bands record label. There are much better bands not getting airplay on "the commode".

KMOD is fueled by Phil & Brent. If they leave, the party will end.

I'm sure they treat both of them very well.

If they ever leave, will they replace them with a local show or will they use a syndicated show?

I don't know much about the rock world, so I am curious.

I don't think Phil and Brent are going anywhere. If they did I would like to hear Mancow. Personally I would love to see KRTQ (Rock102.3) make a comeback. Even if that means a different dial position. They fit my music tastes far better than KMOD. I wouldn't mind KMOD if they would drop many of the tired classics and bring in more currents. Leave the old s**t for Star 103.3 or 94.1 The Sound. KMOD needs to capitalize on the void of new/active rock in this market (KRTQ). KMOD is making the same huge mistake that KLOL in Houston did before their demise. Leave it to Clear Channel to take a heritage station and run it into the ground.

The Clear Channel rock station where I presently live has "Bob and Tom" in the morning drive slot. As a result, I don't listen to them in the morning. As I have traveled on vacation, several other CC "rock" stations have B&T also, as this is a CC product. Kind of like Limbaugh being carried on many CC stations.

You're right, Bob and Tom are at quite a few C.C. properties. It's a decent show that takes time to grow on you. I certainly wasn't a big fan the first time I listened. Clear Channel like many companies has it's positives.

...uh duh, there's such a big fat hole in Tulsa for Bob-like format or Adult-alternative that our friends at Shamrock don't see. The Sound is terrible and KMYZ another bad one. And do you believe it, last Friday night KMOD had a high school football game on in prime Rock listening time. Programming's going to #$@^*& in Tulsa. I don't feel sorry for any of 'em.

That Friday night football game was one of the biggest games in the nation... Why was it a bad idea for them to cover it? I doubt there were a whole lot of people complaining...

Yes, but surely CC owns a sports themed station in Tulsa (or another AM station) that it could have handled the broadcast. Here in football crazy Texas, they are doing the same $&%*$&# thing, broadcasting high school football on their FM stations on Friday nights. Clueless.

Their sports station was broadcasting the Tulsa Drillers in the playoffs that night... I believe the Football game was a one time thing... I've never heard of them doing that before or planning on doing anymore...
